quick question just wondering if when watching 3D movies do you guys have to go into the 3d settings and turn it on every time? I noticed that I have to enable the 3D effect every time and adjust it, it does not lock it in?
Also I am currently testing out PathofNeo settings and have to say I really like what I see comparing to the cinema settings I was using in cinema mode, it appears to display deeper blacks in custom mode which really gives whites and colors more pop. Do you guys feel the same about custom compared to cinema?
Just picked up the 50UT50 yesterday and have been impressed with the colors. Having said that, the picture just doesn't seem to be as crystal clear as I thought it would be. Is there a setting I am missing? I was using a 720 50" Samsung plasma before.
Using a PS3 HDMI 1080p and testing on various blu-rays. Using PathofNeo's settings in custom mode.
Well i went into the sm and checked my defaults and they were considerably different than Rich B's. My R-Drv is FF, G-Drv is F0, B-Drv 7F. That was my Warm HD defaults so his settings are a no go for me. Is there something i am missing. I see Method 00 and the option for WB select method is 0 on the remote. I wonder if theres something he left out that he adjusted. I'm not going to mess with it,oh well. Maybe the 42" is just different than my 50" I didn't have this variance on my g10 using dnice's back in the day but i think mine was the same size.
edit: I went ahead and changed them as i did i just used the + or - amount of clicks and noticed that mine that were different were only one click different default state on every one except for the R-drive,he moved his -1 so i just went -1 with mine. R-drive was the only one way off. So far everything looks good, neo you should try them and put the wow disk in and see how they do and if there is any noticeable difference. All you have to do is write down the start values so you can always go back.
Warm 2 just makes my set a tad too dark overall. Although I can see how people would prefer this setting, especially for nighttime movie viewing where IMO, it really shines.
Switched back to Normal but kept my settings pretty close to PoN's. I'm more than content now.
It's an amazing 3D movie. Fault Paul Anderson for his writing all you want, but the man knows how to film a hell of a good looking movie, especially in 3D. I have Dark of the Moon on order as well. I'm just sticking to movies actually filmed in 3D. I would like to get Hugo as well. I was able to get pretty good deals on both.
Are you using the Panasonic or Samsung glasses? I was able to get a pair of the Panny's for about $32 and might order another pair. The Samsung's are cheap, but they're also very cheap looking and are not rechargeable.
If using cinema you don't have to use graphics for hdmi content,in cinema mode the hdmi content setting appears to do nothing and is exactly the same as custom with hdmi content set to graphics.
The WB settings are from the avforums uk UT50 review as it has wb settings in its menu
After days of trying different service menu white balance settings from dnice's st50 reference and out of box, and RichB's UT50 these look the best and probably the closest to the way they should be to me. I've watched about 4 hours of mixed content and the picture still has good warmth yet sky's are a more vivid realistic blue and skin tones look alot better with less green tinge and color is still good. Here they are if anyone wants to try them, they are my favorite out of all available. Also when you change the wb in the sm it changes it for all modes, just a fyi because i was under the assumption you could change it for each mode.
warm default
R-cut 80 +9 = R-cut 89
G-cut 80 -2 = G-cut 7E
B-cut 80 +2 = B-cut 82
R-drv FF -2 = R-drv FD
G-drv F0 -1 = G-drv EF
B-drv 7F +4 = B-drv 83
Cinema or (Custom with HDMI content set to Graphics) All other settings disabled. You can also put hdmi content to auto in custom and color at 43 if you want a little extra or more vivid color and brightness pop *kind of reminds me of an lcd* *HDMI Content type has zero effect in Cinema Mode* *wb settings for warm in the service menu are the same for every picture mode (vivid,standard,etc...) and adjusting wb in service menu changes the wb in every picture mode*
Cinema
Contrast 78
Brightness 52 any higher and i start to see dithering or pixel dance
Color 48
Tint 0
Sharpness 0
Color Temp Warm2
Custom
Contrast 76-83 your preference
Brightness 56 any higher and i start to see dithering or pixel dance
I just picked up a UT50 and am slightly confused as to the best method by which to break in the display. I have read through the forums regarding Evangelio and D-Nice's slides, as well as some opposing critics of using break in slides. Is there a general consensus as to the ideal method by which to break in this set? Should I just watch full screen shows with everything at
Thanks for your patience with my noobish question.

Just stick to full screen content without any super bright station logos or news crawls for a couple of weeks. Nothing really stationary on the screen. No biggie.

Whitescreen means all colors RGB (Red Green Blue) pixels all active at the same time and black all dim/off, so logically all RGB pixels will break in evenly and uniform.
Watched both of these movies. RE was pretty impressive as far as 3d. I didn't see any pop outs but the depth was great. DM had some slight crosstalk, good 3d but no pop outs.
Just got the 60UT50 and ran it through it's mandatory 100 hours.
Have all the calibration discs: Disney WOW, Spears and Munsil, DVE, and the wonderful free AVS Forum disc.
I have always had Panasonic plasmas before but they were taken from me by a tornado.
Now finally I have one again and am thrilled about it, especially after the great reviews and user comments. (Really did not think it would be worth it for me to pay that much extra to get the higher end models at this point).
Anyways...
It is usually well known that the Pannys are at their closest to the "correct" setting in CINEMA mode , WARM 2.
And I always just simply run the discs in that mode and it was always perfect.
But on this TV something just looked "off" when I used CINEMA even though the colors, tint, etc were basically perfect out of the box.
It looked a little fuzzy. Which is weird since the reviews kept talking about how sharp the picture was.
So then I tried the PathofNeo/RichB settings with "CUSTOM + GRAPHICS"
Bingo!!! There is that beautiful Panasonic picture that I was expecting. Nice POP and much more detailed resolution.
I had just been wrongly expecting it in the usual mode.
Thanks!

I really recommend that people here who are just copying settings know that they will not always get the desired look without a proper disc since things like brightness and contrast depend on your viewing environment and they are your two most important settings. And while all these TVs are close, they are not exactly the same. Learned all this stuff the hard way years ago.
Hey Neo, are you using RichB's 42UT50 SM settings on a 50UT50?
I was but then pcgeek suggested in the discussion thread that I shouldn't use the 42" panel's settings on a 50" panel. I've been using his but I think it looked better with RichB's. I was just wondering if you've tried pcgeek's SM settings and what you thought?
Where exactly do you select "Graphics" in the menu system on the TV?
Does it appear to be like increasing sharpness?
