Its driving my girlfriend nuts because everytime we sit down to watch tv im messing with settings lol she will never understand to her it all looks and sounds the same. My question is how much of a difference does it make on anikuns custom settings when changing the values in the service menu? Im already happy with the way it is and dont want to mess anything up.

One more thing so far the only thing i have not been happy with is watching hockey with any of these settings until lastnight i was flipping through my settings and i stopped on vivid which normaly looks very bad but i may have found use for vivd. The ice looked amazing and the puck and players popped so well with amazing detail. I did drop the contrast to 90 just becasue i hate running anything max. i will try it again on saturday and tweak the settings furthur in vivid. Go Leafs GO!

Using white balance settings only perfect the picture beyond what was set at the factory. Vivid might look better if you drop sharpness to 0. Also, I think each picture mode should be calibrated independently because they have different methods of displaying the incoming signal. Using my setting for vivid might be fine but I haven't tested it to find out. I did custom and cinema and the values are different so I would expect vivid to act the same for calibration.

55UT50 - My WB is not correct, it appears to be dimmer or off white, darker white. How do I correct this. I've followed the set calibrations in the service menu (Anikun07) and first time worked great. But then, I played with it- Wrong move, I should have known better. When I see setting WB in service menu it allows 00, 01, 02, 03 setting. How do I work from this point to correct my WB? Thank You in advance

Yeah, I noticed a magenta cast in the blacks too, but I think it is very dependent on the scene, some blacks are fine, but warmer scenes have a strong cast.

I picked up a UT55 at Costco Thursday and was wondering if I should wait until I've gone past 100 hours before entering the service menu. The build date on mine was December 2012 so it was probably the last run of UT55s.

Why do you want to go into the service menu?

I went into mine to fine tune the WB, which Panasonic has removed from their lower end plasmas like ours from the standard menus. The GT/ST series have adjustable WB without having to get into service mode. Even with service mode, ours still don't have the fine tuning of WB that the higher end sets have. I used anikun's settings on my UT50 and the flesh tones are much better now.

I drove my wife crazy too man.. You have to adjust the SM settings if you want the killer picture. The difference is huge man. I first adjusted the normal menu settings and it looked good but thought the skin tone was off a bit. I asked the same question as you on this forum (about 20 pages back) and got mixed responses. Buddha then posted a how to guide on adjusting the WB setting in the service menu. I had to try and it was a huge payoff man. Just make sure your write down your defaults thats all. Follow Buddhas guide. It is idiot proof and a must to get that ST50 picture that everyone says is possible with this TV. The difference is this- by just adjusting the normal settings you get a good picture, but by adjusting the WB settings you get one of the best pictures possible on current TVs- an awesome picture!!

Hope this helps.

Quick question with Ani's settings. In user settings for 3D cinema mode, color temp is warm 2. In service menu settings, color temp is cool. I understand that warm 2 was changed for the cinema mode and would effect the 3D if changed so he used cool. I'm assuming that in user settings mode, use cool instead of warm 2? Hope thats not too confusing. Thanks

I have a question about the default "drive" settings and what should be changed and not. The only default value that differs from this post is the G-Drive and All-Drive on my TV are set to FA at default. Should I change it to FF, or is every TV uniquely set?
So I got my picture almost exactly to where I want it, but it seems that pure red is kind of overpowering. Anything that is purple, pinkish, or some kind of off red is just fine. The TV only has 50 hours right now. Should I wait a bit and see if the red calms down or should I just go into the SM and turn the red down a tad? If I go into the SM, would I change r-drive, r-cutoff or both?

Could someone please recommend settings for me that don't require the service menu? I've tried looking through the thread but it's a bit of information overload. Right now I'm using custom with all the extra processing turned off, contrast at 75, and color temp at warm 1 (warm 2 looked too yellow). But the set seems awfully dim, especially during daylight. The set has been run for 130 hours or so, 120 of which were the break-in slideshow.

Also, could someone explain why sharpness should be at 0? Won't that blur the picture? Or is the sharpness setting for TV post-processing that alters the original signal?

Here is everything you need. Getting into the service menu and making adjustments isn't as difficult as it sounds and it make a HUGE difference in picture. http://www.avsforum.com/t/1412033/the-official-panasonic-ut50-settings-issues-thread/600#post_22834972

I concur 1000% When I first took my 50UT50 home I was underwhelmed as the skin tones just looked a little sickly. After following the guides in the forum, I'm still amazed on how much better this set is when compared to my Samsung 46EH6000 and my BR's LG 42".

I've never figured out why everyone puts sharpness at zero. Definitely blurs the picture. I like realism, not a movie-theater look. I actually have my sharpness at 68. Personally, I don't think anything under 50 for sharpness does any good for an HD pic.
Typically adding sharpness is introducing an adjustment to the picture and is therefor not original. Like color and tint, it's an element of the CRT Tube TV days. Different sets have different ways of setting no sharpness adjustment, but I think on the Panasonic 0 is no alteration of the source. But in the end you have to enjoy the picture you're watching.

Hey guys! Just picked up a 50UT50 last week from Sears. Wall mount should arrive today via UPS, so I'll FINALLY be able to put this bad boy up on the wall! I have a small concern though. I've been running the break-in slides for a couple of days and noticed that there is a single, solitary pixel "flickering," for lack of a better word, near the edge of the screen on the left side of the panel. It's only noticeable from close up (within 4 feet or so) and only on bright content. Is this something that is ALWAYS going to be there, or is there a chance that after some break-in it will go away? I REALLY don't want to have to box this back up and return it, and I probably won't unless this turns into a bigger problem but wanted to get some more insight. Like I said, it's not visible from viewing distances, but it just kinda bugs me that my brand new tv isn't flawless.

Hello I'm new here. Just bought a 60UT50 and I have 2-3 question

1- I've been running the jogger screen black white flickers now for 50 hours should I switch to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4gE_Xez-fQ, for the next 50 hours or keep going with the white and black. Also If I have to switch to this where can I get this to copy on a USB key.

2- Why change the Cinema setting and not the custom one? is the something embeded in the cinema setting ?

3- Why when I change to game setting the screen flick black for a second it's the only setting that does this. Also should I use game setting if gamming or always stick with the cinema modified setting

1. You can safely watch any full screen content now, just be mindful tv logos or scrollers

2. not sure.

3. Im guess this is because the TV is turning all images processing to reproduce the image as quickly as possible. Gamde mode only has a 16ms delay which is outstanding.

Same question here...

Posters keep referring to them throughout this thread, but I can't find them anywhere...

Path of Neo's initial settings can be found here: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1406618/official-panasonic-ut50-series-discussion-thread/30#post_21963221

He took them down from this thread. When I had the UT50 I came up with about the same using the Disney WoW disc. I'd say Anikun's settings posted in this thread are probably your best bet though since they have service menu adjustments.

As far as I know D Nice never posted settings for the UT series. Just the ST, GT and VT. The other guy I hadn't heard mentioned before.

anikun07 I have one question. When you calibrated your panel you changed all color components, even green. Why? In "GREYSCALE & COLOUR CALIBRATION FOR DUMMIES" guide noted that green is as reference and only RED and BLUE should be changed.

Dude path of neo is on tour- he is nowhere to be found... regardless his settings don't take you into the service menu- hence they suck. Use Anikuns settings with Buddha's how to guide, they are referenced in this forum like a million times. They are the best possible settings you can get for this TV... and i have tried many from other forums and websites.

Everyone should be thanking Anikun.

I want to thank Anikun and Buddha!! I just made the changes to my TC-P50UT50 and the differences are night and day. The faces and skin tones look more natural and the the green tint that was present is gone. This TV just keeps getting better. Thanks again! JT

I am not sure as each TV has it's own personality as far as settings. When I got my 50UT50 al I did was increase the contrast by 10 on the standard settings.
I bought the Disney WOW calibration disk and played with it on the beginner tutorial and checked contrast and white (brilliance) and actually my settings agreed with the WOW disk. Since time was limited, I decided to do everything again later and will use the advanced tutorial.....but for now I am satisfied with the picture which is much better than the LR Sony.

Since Direct TV on my box only goes up to 1080i in the format settings, maybe I need to inquire about a new box. (Lord knows, I pay them enough for top of the line feed) My Blu Ray source is stunning though.

or, get a receiver that upsacles to 1080p/24 cool.gif

So I tried Anikun's settings again last night, and much like last time, the bright scenes had plenty of fantastic color but the darker end of the spectrum was tinted red. I wanna toy around with trying to eliminate that so I knock down the R-Cut levels? Increase the G/B-Cuts? I'm not looking for hard science, I know I'm avoiding the key part of getting myself a proper meter, but I figure just playing around couldn't hurt. Anyone got any ideas?

Are you using Anikuns exact WB settings? or are you using the number of clicks from default? (Buddhas tutorial) this is the correct way... there are a few mistakes in the forum... there was a correction to the number or clicks that made a major difference on my tv.... look for my post on that. You are using cinema and warm??? just checking... because my blacks are ridiculous.... black!!! ... not reddish... maybe its your tv....

Sorry, I should've been more specific. I used Buddha's click method with Cinema mode and Warm. It's probably just my TV! lol. Which is fine, no TV is the exact same thing so I'm just trying to roll with the punches on this one biggrin.gif
