Hi people,
I'm wondering if anyone can help me out? I'm a noob when it comes to projectors and screens, I was thinking(hoping) 120" screen(price for a mid range one I'm not sure of..are these any good.. and what would I be missing out on compared to a decent screen http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Electric-...item3f09a179f3, I really want a 16:9 screen though as i wont be viewing much at all, if anything, in 4:3 ), in regards to projectors I was looking at the Sony VPL-HW30AES for around 3K'ish, seems to be good all rounder for that price range, gaming(wont be doing much of that on my HTPC I have a dedicated gaming PC to do all that on), 3d(dont like 3d much I find its all crap(on my samsung plasma and even on PC) compared to the cinemas and not worth my time.
This is just for my lounge room, and my HTPC will be the main source of video and yes I want 1080P, I'm an electrician by trade so I can sort out all the wiring myself, but I know very little about projectors and screens apart from it's going in my lounge room lol and will prob get around 4-10rs a week usage(60" will be run instead most of the time)and pretty much all of that usage will be at night with the lights out of course. I'm in no way worried about a dedicated cinema room at this stage, I basically just want a good picture for no more than 4k(I'm 20% deaf lol, and already have an amp and speakers), oh I'm from Australia too.
I guess my main questions in reagrds to whats mentioned above is; would that Sony projector(1300 Lumens) be suffice for a lounge room with white walls. I like what I've read about that projector and what I've seen on youtube/other reviews etc, but as I've said I'm a noob and I'm worried that I'll be needing something around the 2000-2500 lumens for the odd day time viewing(with curtains shut of course) and the fact it's not a dedicated theatre room having white walls and all etc, and if I go for another model around the same price with more lumens would I be sacrificing contrast and picture quality, if not throw some brands/model numbers at me pls, I've been turned of JVC's due to some issues others have spoken of. In terms of throw distance(distance form screen to mount PJ on ceiling) and best screen size I have no clues in this department, room is around 18'(PJ will be pointing down this direction) x 13'.
Oh and the screen, it has to be something that can be pulled up out of the way(not fixed), I'm not fussy really but I do like the idea of a remote for the screen but it's not a must, anyway you get the drift, I have not many clues on the subject and you probably do hehe.
Any advice would be appreciated, I'm looking to buy in around a few weeks time, pls dont tell me to wait, it aint gonna happen, if I regret it I'll ugrade sooner rather than later.
