Still need a lot more info...

What are your viewing habits, your screen size, seating position, do you need placement flexibility, are you also buying a new screen, etc?

I would look into the Epson 5010 or Sony hw30 as an all-around 2D/3D combo, if you want just absolutely the best 3D possible and don't care about 2D as much, then look at the Optoma hd33/hd3300, Optoma hd8300, or the Benq w7000.

I would probably go with the Epson 5010 based on the giant screen size because it will do better with 3D in its brighter torch modes. At this screen size, I would still look into the HP Da-Lite 2.4 gain screen even if going with the Epson, because that is a pretty big screen and you will need as much brightness as you can get over time for 3D.

You may be misunderstanding some of the information you got, or we're misunderstanding your question?

From the Epson 5010 FAQ page.

Q:

What image size can be projected?
A:

The projected image size is measured diagonally and can be from 30 to 300 inches (0.76 to 7.62 m). The size of the image is determined by the distance from the projector’s lens to the screen. Depending on your display settings, source signal, and how you use the Zoom ring, the actual size may differ. A utility to help calculate an image size or the projection distance is available from the Drivers & Downloads page for your projector.
