Piranha 3DD on Directv on June 1st

Certain theatre chains are refusing to show this film because of it being day and date. Is it only Directv? Is it the 3d version? Only reason to watch a movie like this is that you know you will be getting some gimmicky 3d

I bought it when t first came out and kind of liked the movie once the fish started biting but the 3D effects weren't much to look at.

The first one was converted. The new one is native.

As I've always suspected, many people "assume" conversion jobs are always bad, so they end up seeing what they want to. A UK review site goes on and on about the bad conversion job on this film, because they mistakenly believe it was converted. Priceless.

The 3D trailer on YouTube didn't look very impressive to me. Looked like flat 3D without enough image separation. I can understand how someone inexperienced might mistake it for a conversion since many of the bad conversions also have that problem.

Still, the "flatness" could partially be due to YouTube's compression of the video. It would undoubtedly look more impressive from an HD source.

You have to wonder what this movie is about with double D in the title?

You don't have to wonder, just watch the previews and it's obvious what they mean

This was fun, rented on Cox, great depth and full of gimmicks galore. It was well worth the $7.99 price I paid. However it was in TB format, I since noticed it is also available on Vudu, going to rewatch on Vudu to see if it has better quality.

Warning though, this movie is very graphic and offensive, if you are offended easily, stay far away.

Also original poster please change title from Directv to VOD please?

I didn't think it was close to being as good as the first one. Obviously done on a shoestring budget, this resembled an Asylum production for the SyFy Channel. They couldn't even afford more than a handful of extras at the water park!? The actors that carried over from the previous film had little do do.

At least they did shoot in 3-D this time, but it didn't seem the director understood you can't just use a 3-D rig and shoot in 2-D style, you also have to block your shots for depth to get a good effect. It was hit and miss; some good depth but many missed opportunities. I've seen converted films that looked more three dimensional. Still, they get points for using a 3-D rig, though some shots still have a converted look.

It's worth a PPV rental. I think the decision to go that route was a wise one. It's really not worthy of a wide theatrical release. If they follow through with another sequel as teased, I hope they put a little more effort into it and improve upon this half hearted effort. Keep watching through the credits.....

Haven't seen the new one yet- Vudu 3D isn't "supported" on my TV or Blu-Ray player even though they're both 3D capable. I liked the first one a lot though, I was surprised to find out afterwards it was converted rather than shot in 3D. The making-of thing on the disc, which runs longer than the actual movie, says that the water caused image problems with the 3D camera they tried so they did it converted instead, but did stuff like shoot backgrounds with no actors so they'd have stuff to work with.

That's odd...both my player and TV (two different mfgrs) work with VuDu 3D.
Are you utilizing a 3D-compatible HDMI cable?

Yes- my Sharp TV is 3D and has the Vudu app on it, but 3D titles do not show up on it. I "bought" the 3D Vancouver video a while ago from my computer and it shows up in my movies, but when I try to play it a message comes up saying "This device does not currently support 3D." Same with my Oppo Blu-Ray player. 3D Blu-Rays play great.

vudu 3d only works with certain devices only like the ps3

Correct, but if you have the vudu app built into the Smart TV it is really weird that the app for the tv doesn't support 3d. Vudu works in 3d on my tv app and through playstation 3,but not on Xbox 360 even though xbox 360 is 3d capable. If you get a ps3 or perhaps see if they have an updated app for your tv.

I rented the 2D version. Much less gore and nudity (the main selling points of the movie) than the first one. It was okay, but the first was much better.

Just picked up the 3D bluray and watched it tonight. Overall I liked it. I thought the 3D was really good. My Sony 3DTV often suffers from ghosting/crosstalk, but I didn't see any in this film. There were a few, well placed, pop outs, and overall the picture was sharp and clear. The Hoff does a great job of making fun of himself. Definitely worth the $20.

I got the blu-ray pretty cheap so I picked it up. It's what you would expect. 3d was decent, I liked the first one better. This flick could have benefited from some extreme pop out, (fish, DD's etc) but there was almost none.
