For fathers day i would like to get the in wall speakers that my dad had installed when the house was built in 1984ish. I'm usually pretty good with this stuff but have been stumped by this one and the wiring. He has 4 speakers in 2 rooms each room has its own dial for volume control. All the wires go into a cupboard but the problem is that it is very hard to access so taking the panel out to look at how things are hooked up is easier said than done. i have taken some pictures of the set up as best as i could. it looks like the 2 speakers feed into the 1/4" jacks on the wall plate but i do not understand what the box beside it is. it has 3 1/4" inputs but no writing or markings to indicate and input or output.
with all of this i plan to run it from a mini system i have lying around i hooked up some wires to the 1/4" jacks but couldn't seem to get sound through any of the speakers.
