2 mid priced subwoofers vs 1 high priced. Please help

Looking for 1 sub or 2 subs within $ 500-800. My 3.0 setup is Energy Veritas V6. 3 for the front, V5.2 for center and AVR Yamaha RX-A2010 9.2 channels.
Room size 12x 25' x 8'. Listening area is 10'x10', HT is in the middle of the room facing the long wall. Watching movies 40%, listening to music 50%, gaming 10%.
I live in an apartment - so most of the time I will be playing at low volumes - high level output is not as important as SQ. Good base and room filling are very appreciated. Small size factor is very important. A good look helps a lot, specially in case of 2 subs.
I need you opinions on the following subs (the sub might stay in the middle of the room in case of 2 it would be center of the room and diagonal corner and I would prefer piano gloss finish that will match my speakers and furniture without compromising of the sound quality). Please help me choose.
2 subs setup
2 x Energy VSW10 - $ 350 each + FS
2 x DefTech SuperCube II - $ 389 each + FS
2 x BIC Acoustech PL-200 - $ 330 each
or
1 sub setup
SVS PB12- NSD
SB12-NSD
Rhythmic F12

Max Dimensions 16" W x 22" D, height doesn't matter. But the main question is: from which setup (1 sub vs 2 subs) for more or less the same money will I get more. Thank you.

AFAIK the Energy S10.3 is on sale for $189 through today. Coupon code EMCYTZT1649. You have to register at newegg before you can enter coupon codes.

Do you think just one in that size room (and positioned on the long wall)? I have the same question, although not so much cost but justification for two subs over one. My room is 20x34, and based on the research I've done there are few subwoofers that will singly produce sufficient bass to fill all 5500 cubic feet.

I'm not challenging your response, just trying to learn more.

You also have to consider the low frequency range of 2 cheaper subs versus 1 bigger sub. The bigger sub in most cases will go (should) lower

I like the Two BIC PL-200 subs for your dual and yes they can go low!!!

The PL-200 is a pretty compromised unit. This is what Josh Ricci had to say about it.

"The PL-200 is a popular entry level home theater subwoofer often recommended to consumers on a strict budget. Dual HSU STF's would be better. The HSU products don't sacrifice performance and parts quality for the sake of appearance.

For a 20X34 room I think you should look into dual subs in the $500-$600 each price range.

In that size room I would look into an HSU VTF-15H. My room is close to that size and a single 15H works well. I had two mid tier subs and the single VTF-15H easily outperforms the pair.

It has very clean output and can easily extend down well under 20hz without distortion.

Do you have the freedom to put these two subs you speak of where they will work best or are you limited to a few locations.

Multiple subs simply help fill in the gaps of LF sound, and spread it out so across a typical multi seat LP you will have the same response. Wts, there are three choices, the Geddes method of three subs, the Welti-Devantier method of two or four subs, or a modifyed method that i used. You can read it in my signature thread.

You should begin to aquire some measurement gear so you are not going into this blind. It seems that alot of science ends at the door, where it should actually continue. Setting up multiples is just about impossible without the proper measurement gear. With proper gear it is as simple as can be.

I dont have an opinion on any of these subs, just the methodology on setting them up. I really produced some great results using multiple subwoofers. good luck andpost your results...

I have two brand new SVS PB12-NSD subwoofers arriving today via FedX.
They'll be replacing two BIC America F12 subwoofers currently in my HT.
