2 Outlaw LFM-1 EX vs 1 Rythmik FV15HP

I currently have 1 Outlaw LFM-1 EX and I believe it is not loud enough and doesn't produce chest pounding bass. I was wondering if I should replace it with a Rythmik FV15HP or if I should add one more LFM. How many more db does adding the same sub give? I think its either 3db or 6db, I forgot. I am also really concerned about sound quality so does the FV15HP sound better than LFM-1 EX?
Or how about an SVS PB-12?
I think I would skip HSU VTF-15 because it has the same 350 RMS amp as the LFM-1 EX yet costs a lot more.

Thanks

I have about 5000-6000 cu ft room

The HSU vtf15 is a great sub! In a room that large it is hard to get chest pounding bass. Nearfield placement is a must if you want that. I too have a room that is about 6500 cubic ft so I know it is very difficult.

Adding the same sub in the same place you get a 6 db increase. Adding the same sub in a different location you will get a 3 db increase.

I wouldn't skip the VTF-15H simply because it has a 350W amp - but I'd still go with the FV15HP if I was choosing between the two.

I would also choose an FV15HP over a pair of LFM-1 EXs as well. A PB12-Plus is also a good choice.

Keep in mind that in 5,000 to 6,000 cubic feet, the others may not produce chest pounding bass either. Depends (a) on what you mean by that and (b) your particular room acoustics. If you are looking for car audio level subwoofer performance, its probably going to take more sub than even the FV15HP.

One more thing. You might want to save your money toward one of these

I hear you folks on the "chest thumping thing"..but I have a Rythmik FV15 and it just slams the heck out of me. My great room/cathedrial ceiling room is also 6k cu. ft. BUT, I DONT want my dishes to move around and rearrange themselves! I had to run around while doing the "buzz and rattle test" on DVE Blu Ray with the Rythmik while I didn't with my old Paradigm. My question to you is, is your 5-6k cu. ft. your listening area or do you have a great room design?

It is my living room that connects to my kitchen, I sit 4 ft normally from my sub and I don't feel it as strong as I do when I sit 10-12ft from it. The reason is that when I am sitting in center of the room (4ft) it sounds weak but when I sit close to the wall (10-12ft) I do feel a little chest thump but it is barely noticeable. Basically what I am trying to say is that nearfield does not necessarily mean stronger impact. Chest thump is not the only reason why I am planning on upgrading, I would also like better sound quality and stuff falling off the shelves. Overall sound quality is my first priority. So within the $1300 budget what would be my best option. LFM-1 EX is an OK sounding sub to me but not amazing by any means both sound quality and loudness/impact wise. Just so you guys know I have Polk RTI-12 fronts.

Get the second outlaw. You will be much happier with 2 subs to even room response. One rymthik will not sounds as good as any two subs. Two subs will work less and fill the rooms better with a 6db gain as long a they are with 10' or so. If you are compare one sub to one sub, them I'm a big believer in rythmik.

Sounds like the Rythmik would be the better choice over the EX for you. Or, depending on where you set your crossover, for a little more money, dual Epik Empires. They have a reputation for good midbass slam. And as sealed subs, they will be an improvement in SQ over the EX.

I heard this, but how do the subs work less? If you cannot EQ two subs with Audyssey XT, how does it balance two subs?

Keep in mind no owner I have ever read on these forums have ever traded in the better sub for lesser subs unless they were moving into a small place and space is at a premium then you read about how bad they miss there better sub. This is one hobby where downgrading rarely happens and the consumer is happy afterwards.

Audyssey EQs the signal sent to the sub for the listening position. If I'm not mistaken, you level match your two subs with a cheap sound meter, or gain match them, then run Audyssey. If the channel(trim) level determined by Audyssey turns out too high or low, adjust the matching and rerun Audyssey.

See if you can borrow any sub from anyone and plug them in the room not level and hear what I mean, but in an ideal situation, you'll want identical subs because the weakest link in the chain is your limit.

I don't know if it was mentioned in here, but did you try Max output? I have one in Max output and one in Max extension. I am experimenting. Max Output will open the subs up.
