Continuum ... New Series on Canadian TV - Page 5

The networks do their "planning" in the spring for new fall series and mainly for filling any holes in the schedule. This is usually done at a show where show runners try to sell their new series. Simon Baker said he pitched the show in the US before he did to Canada. So even if Syfy did decide to pick it up they probably wouldn't be able to fit it into the schedule until summer or fall of 2013.

The finale is going to be one of those episodes we're going to have to watch a few times to really appreciate everything that happened or was revealed.

I'd like to go into more detail once others here chime in that they've seen the episode, but one thing that was really neat (without being too spoilerish) was during the explosion we say Kiera and Alex emerge from the flames in a protective bubble (apparently provided by her suit) and the Fed agent saw them too.... Did you see the look on his face when Kiera activated the invisibility feature on the suit as she simply dissolved out of existence? That was just awesome! Obviously she's on the Fed's radar now!

We also learned that apparently others came back from 2077 too, innocent bystanders and 'freelancers' with an agenda....

This one episode basically supplied a couple of seasons worth of fodder for future episodes.

If this show doesn't get renewed it will go down as one of the biggest (multiple) cliffhanger endings ever!

Oh, you're referring to Sonya (played by Lexa Doig)....
Sure seemed like she was going to kill Travis- are you sure there was a bang? I'll have to watch it again..smile.gif

Exactly. This series better get more seasons. Great twist in that Alec told himself to tell her why she was sent back.

I can't wait for more episodes. mad.gif

There have been many series over the decades that have great cliff-hangers, only to be canceled. It is indeed infuriating. But it is a fact of life that needs to be accepted.

IMHO, closing up all of the loose ends in a series every year makes it difficult to start the next year.

An example of a series that got lots of raves, but no viewers was The Ringer. It closed all of the major story lines for the first season, but started other story lines fhr next season, only to have The CW cancel the series. mad.gif

Unfortunately, for a majority of shows, the season is wrapped and in the can before the fate is known.

So, not only are there the cliff-hangers in the various shows, but we have the cliff-hanger of the so-called network execs deciding what shows will get to come back for another season.

Great season ending. So many loose ends ... so many possibilities.

I seriously hope there is a second season. I suspect that her husband is big part of the resistance. She will find out and want to get back that much more urgently.

But think of all the work it would be to change all of the Canadian references to American names and locations so their viewing audience would think it was set in the Good Old USA.

That's great news and bodes well for a second season renewal of Continuum!
Thankfully the Brits seem to have better taste in TV then many here in the US of A...

Continuum Gets Renewed for Season Two
Saturday, August 25, 2012 3:10 PM

Showcase announces the renewal of its #1 series that swept the nation this summer, Continuum. The phenomenally successful series will begin production on its 13 episode season two order in 2013.

Continuum debuted on Showcase to an audience of over 1 million viewers (2+), shattering all previous premiere records on the network, making it the #1 specialty series of the summer. Boosting Showcase’s viewership by indexing 117% for A25-54 and 123% for A18-49 versus last summer, Continuum averaged #1 on Sundays, dominating its timeslot (9p-10p) across all key demos. The epic first season concluded with the most-watched finale in Showcase history.*

“Continuum was a tremendous success for the channel,” said Barbara Williams, Senior Vice President, Content, Shaw Media. “We are proud to green light such a prolific ratings hit and original series for a second season, and to continue Kiera’s journey through time for our dedicated viewers.”

In the season finale titled ”Endtimes,” Kiera raced against the clock trying to prevent a Liber8 bombing, which ultimately killed hundreds of innocent people. The shocking twist led to an explosive finale leaving many lingering questions. In the search for answers, fans continue to flock to the Continuum social networks to sound off. Since the premiere, there have been over one million page views at showcase.ca/continuum, making it the most visited show site of all time, and averaged over 10,000 Get Glue check-ins per new episode. Boasting over 630,000 video views, fans can catch up on the entire first season of Continuum at showcase.ca/video.

Continuum is a one-hour police drama centered on Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols), a cop from the year 2077 who finds herself trapped in present day Vancouver, searching for convicted criminals from the future, known as Liber8. With unexpected assistance from teen tech genius Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen), Kiera concentrates on bringing down the terrorists before they can change the course of history forever. Impersonating a local law enforcement officer to expedite her investigation, she forms an uneasy alliance with her new partner, detective Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster).

Filmed on location in Vancouver, Continuum is developed and produced by Reunion Pictures in association with Shaw Media.

This is some great news, nice to have some intelligently made sci-fi for TV, even if we do have to use roundabout methods to view it.smile.gif
