Continuum on SHOWCASE (Canada) - Page 15

I wonder if they are being ambiguous just in case something else scheduled flops and they can put season 2 of Continuum in it's spot?

Season 2 premieres in Canada on April 21st.

Speculation here in this thread is that Season 2 of Continuum will start airing in the US after Defiance has aired its 12 episodes which would put a Continuum start date of somewhere in July.

It's a bit weird, US series air on Canada at the same time, some even earlier! (Thinking Criminal Minds), I don't know what the execs from Showcase and Syfy are thinking, perhaps they told SyFy if they wanted Continuum "new" they will pay more, of course SyFy chose "Cheaper and Later"

What would really affect SyFy is U.S. Viewers will find a way to watch it by some other means

They evidently feel enough Canadians have access to the U.S. Syfy channel that their Showcase viewers will be cannibalized if the show airs simultaneously. So they've required an exclusive window before Syfy airs it. They must think that the losses they'll suffer from pirating will be less than that.

The only other explanation is that Syfy has mandated the delay. That could only be because they feel their own programming will generate more ad dollars than 'Continuum' would, minus the licensing fee.

We (me, family) have just watched through episode 4, so I'm purposely not reading all of this thread (yet). I did want to say that this has been a surprisingly good series (maybe not great, but well above average). My sister recommended it to me, otherwise we would have completely missed it.

It has writing and performances that are "full of heart" to me, a tight and well thought out story arc, and time travel conumdrums that make for some thinking (but they are keeping it simple enough as well as focusing on the police / procedural to not get too bogged down in various "what ifs").

In my opinion it continues to get better. Enjoy!

Well Syfy likes to have new episodes of at least one if not two shows on most Mondays thru the year. Thus they will have DEFIANCE and new WAREHOUSE 13's for the next few months and then In July they can throw new Continuum in along with I am not sure what being that Alphas was canceled. I do know they have at least one more new drama series (Helix) but from what I can gather it will not be ready until later this year. They might have another new series ready to go that I am unaware of. Haven does not start filming until summer and they use it to anchor Friday nights at 10PM eastern.

Great season ender.
Although the rest was fairly predictable, didn't see the Kagame kamikaze ending.

"Defiance" is an expensive gamble for Syfy and it might not float with audiences. They might put in "Continuum" as second string if for some reason it doesn't get the eyes they are expecting.

I don't know why, but the trailers of Defiance remind me of something from Speilberg.

'Defiance' has a video-game tie-in and other cross-marketing built in, maybe the first of its kind. The game is going to be released maybe a week before the show premieres. Each has an interest in the other. Syfy is going to give it a lot more slack than a normal show. Doesn't mean it won't flop, but they expect a synergistic effect from all those media platforms and will likely give it more rope to see how it all performs.

Isn't it also similar to Sanctuary in that probably 95% of it is green-screened?

Ahhh, video game...OK, I wasn't aware.smile.gif

No green screen virtual sets here-at least, not for primary sets. They've spend a good deal building the town set piece on the studio's backlot. Much as Terra Nova did

That is a given, for me anyway. I do not live in Canada, nor do I have Cable/DBS. Even if I was in Canada I wouldn't watch it on Showcase. Can't stand bugs, snipe, etc. Getting the clean version is the ONLY way to go.

+1
I only watch the iTunes 720p versions- 100% bug/snip free! For me, all the added on screen crap completely ruins the viewing experience- I can wait- typically 24hrs after CA/US airtime- for a clean viewing of the content.
The Blu-ray is scheduled for release in 4 days (March 26th) so I have that on order from Amazon too...
Ya, hopefully it will be available as 1080p this time around.

Season 1 is available in 1080p on both iTunes Canada and US.. when iTunes started doing 1080p, it was back filled with 1080 encodes (just change your preference to 1080 and re-download)

Forgive me, but my brain is still a bit blown from that finale. So, Julian grows up to be a true-blue Liber8'er, in prison for god knows how long, and maybe turns out to be one of the good guys while Alec grows up to be a craven, misbehaven' corporate tycoon? eek.gif Kagame commits timeline hari kari, taking the ultimate one for the team? eek.gif.

Boy, it'd be sweet if Syfy actually cared enough about, you know, sci-fi to pick this thing up in April instead of stringing us out 'till mid-summer.

I don't think there has been "official" word yet.
I'm still holding out hope....

Wow. Where did that come from? Last I checked, Al Jazeera was a global news operation with no love for Qaeda terrorists or their ilk, and no connection to 'Continuum' either.

But with an anti-american slant...sometimes specifically. (at least they were a couple years ago when I checked 'em out...out of curiosity). About as fair and balanced as Faux.., I thought. But to each their own.
As for CONTINUUM, will have to see the last 2 episodes. I stopped watching after about 5 shows in...it was just another cop show...going after the malcontent of the week with the help of a special suit and the usual young cliched tech expert.
(Most of these shows have one. ARROW has a girl!) But I remember folks saying the end eps ares better so I'll give it a go.

Boy, it would be sweet if the Canadian producers would let Syfy air it in the U.S. concurrent with the Canadian showings.

Had much the same reaction as you. Had 3 or 4 episodes waiting before I got around to watching-just wasn't that into it. But I finally did start watching and once I did couldn't stop. Don't know if the show got better or if I just learned how to approach it, but I got all caught up in one night. Hopefully something similiar will happen to you. smile.gif And that finale! Really reminded me of an improved X-Files, and not just because of CSM being in it.
