Help needed with video server configuration

Hello All

I have a retired computer that I would like to make into a video server. It functions flawlessly, and runs Win 7 Ultimate. HP XW8400 workstation - Xeon quad core e5335 processor, two WD Caviar Black 2TB HDD, one Crucial m4 SSD OS drive

I have the following components:

Living Room - Sony 46 inch "v2500" series TV - 1080P (about 5 years old)
Flush mounted, all cables hard wired prior to home construction
Sony 7.2 sound system. All speakers hard wired prior to
home construction (I HATE EXPOSED WIRES!!!)
Sony STR-DG800 Receiver
Sony DVP-NC85H 5 CD / DVD Carousel
Scientific Atlanta 8250HDC cable box
The receiver, dvd player and cable box are mounted in a built in cabinet, about 20 feet from the TV. All wires for the surround system and the TV inputs / outputs come out of the house behind this cabinet

Family Room - Samsung UN 55 D 6900 - 3D TV
Flush mounted, all cables buried in wall
Samsung BD - D5500 3D Blu Ray player
Nintendo Wii (white)
Sony PS3

Office - NO TV YET - pre-wired with coax and internet jacks in wall

My questions:

- Is the HP Workstation a good foundation for the AV Server?
- I am in the process of ripping (using AnyDVD) all of my home movies; do I rip to ISO or files?
- How is the video "streamed" to the TV in the living room (main TV); through the receiver?
- Can the video be sent via the ethernet cable to the family room TV?
- How is the list of movies / tv shows made viewable on the respective TV's?

I also want to make sure that the viewers can watch separate movies at the same time, and that I can watch on my work computer yet another movie.
I am hoping there is a software program that will simplify this?

I do want to do this right from the start, so any advice whatsoever would be greatly appreciated!

You might get a better response in the Home Theater Computers area. Mod should move this thread.

If you want to get content streamed to your living room you would have to add a media player component capable of catching streams, e.g. AppleTV, Boxee, game system, etc. Your current living room receiver can't do it alone.

Your computer specs looks fine- I have much older computers running my main workstations than your "retired" rigs! haha

I can't help much on media software recommendations- I'll soon be building a similar server for the first time, too. Make sure whatever format you rip can be read on all your media players or you'll need multiple versions.
