Anyone no if other rail kits can be used on these machines? I'm new to servers, so I don't know if they are a standard thing or if they are different for each machine.
I'd like to know the answer to that as well. Rackmount equipment is 19" wide which is the standard for rackmount gear. You would just need some slide rails to mount the case into the chassis, which you may be able to find on Ebay.
My wait is finally over as well as I just gotten my email as I was put on the waitlist back in March. Here are the specs of this server:
"Great news! The wait is over! I am contacting you to let you know that we now have more of the Supermicro servers back in stock! They are 24 bay servers with caddies, here are their specs
Case is 24 Bay Supermicro SC846 with caddies
Procs: Qty 1 AMD Opteron Quad Core 2346HE @ 1.8GHz
Ram: 8GB 4x 2GB, 12 empty slots
IPMI Card: Kira 100
Qty 3 SAT2-MV8 Raid cards
Qty 2 Ablecom PWS-902-IR Power supplies"
Its nice that the price of this server is at $319 until the end of May, though shipping will still bring it up to about $400. Still better than an empty Norco 4224 at $400. Looks like only the AMD model was available, which was fine since my smaller server is also AMD powered. I was planning to test running Windows Server 2012 Essentials on this machine. What parts would I need to make the system quieter, especially the power supply?
