I am having difficulty doing this...
I thought I had it all set up using the 4 pin connections on the backplane... but I kept getting a beep error.
If anyone can help with this.... I would greatly appreciate it.
So its safe to mount the heavy PSU using nothing but tape and the bumpers on bottom? I don't see any secure mounting/screws.
I will probably replace the cpu with another Opteron if I'm changing the HSF. Will any quad/six core Socket F Opteron be compatible? Any recommendations for a compatible HSF?
Are those fans connected to the motherboard fan headers?
From the manual - "The H8DM8-2/H8DME-2 has eight fan headers. Fans 7 and 8 (only) are 4-pin Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) and their speed is controlled via Thermal Management with a BIOS setting. "
Based on this I'm guessing it should be possible to connect and thus control the fans. Also you decided not to replace the HSF?
Found this info on heatsinks - http://imountain.com/blog/2009/06/22/socket-f-heatsink-and-fan-same-as-socket-940/
Can anyone confirm this?
Trying not to think about it I plan to start with the ones I have, about 9TB in various sizes, and slowly expand as I find good deals. I saw BestBuy was selling Seagate 3TB externals for <$100 a few weeks ago, missed that deal.
