dts hd ma question

Hi All

I have a Denon 1312, Boston Acoustics XS, Sony 37ex723 and Panasonic BD75 Blu Ray.

The Denon manual says that it is capable of DTS HD MA but when I put on a blu ray disc eg Jarhead, the amp doesn't seem to automatically switch to the DTS setting, in fact sometimes the choice of DTS disappears altogether. The Denon manual isn't that clear so maybe I am missing something.

I'm just wondering if the receiver should switch to DTS automatically when a blu ray is put on.

Any help gratefully received.

Are you using HDMI from the BD player to the Denon AVR? (Have to be in order to get DTS-MA)

Check the settings in the Panasonic BD75 to make sure it's set to pass "Bitstream" audio over HDMI, not decoding to PCM. That player can also decode DTS-MA, so it's likely this is your issue.

Some discs also have multiple soundtracks so you might have to select the DTS-MA track - this is becoming less common, though. Normally you don't have to do anything.

Thanks Jeff

That sounds like a plan. I haven't even played with the settings on the blu-ray player.
Can't wait to get home to see if that does the trick.
Wull keep you updated.

My PS3 was doing the same thing and I finally figured this out. You were actually hearing DTS HD MA the whole time but it just wasn't displayed. I prefer to see that beautiful DTS of course.
