Joerod has indicated that the video processing for the 818 is noticeably better than last years models.

Looking at the Onkyo site again it does show "Dual Core Video" processing for the 818 which could be the difference. I missed that when I looked at the Onkyo site earlier. In what ways does Joe comment on the video processing being better?

It doesn't seem any better to my eyes, but the same as the 5009 I owned...
Having said that, I am sure it is better than the model the 818 replaced.

I was going to wait until August to get the 818, but noticed the Vann's deal for $900 is back and couldn't resist! I got it through bountii.com (found via Google shopping) which added an "audio" coupon to bring the price to $899.89 shipped. Since this is my first post, I can't include a direct link, but go to bountii and search for 'Onkyo TX-NR818" and you'll find it.

Thought I'd share something with all of you. I called J&R to see if they would price match the Vanns deal (J&R is close...I live in CT). Bottom line is that they couldn't / wouldn't match the price which indicates to me that this is a decent deal. By the way, I got permission from my other half but YMMV!!!

This kind of thing is so subjective. My best guess is that the SQ will both be the same. But if the 3009 is a little better, I doubt it would be worth the price difference especially if you consider the Vanns deal. Joerod will have a review of the 818 shortly. It seems to me in one of his posts that he sold his 3009 and kept the 818.

NO its not, if your 807 is perfect, like my 3007, then NO. Unless you need
3D hdmi, and / or one of the new software APPs.. The only upgrade would be XT to XT32 which is no big deal, but thats my .02....
I would wait to see what the onkyo flagship replacements AVRs bring to the table. Also denons new AVRs, replacement for the 4311 and higher.. Theres really no rush, unless your unit is acting-up..

Yeah I figured as well! My 807 has been working flawlessly for almost 3 years now with no issues! Also have a free 5 year warranty on it from my local shop!
I am curious to see the new Flagship models! If the sound quality is not alot then I will most likely keep my 807. I am very curious as to the XT32 since I only have MultEQ with my 807....wondering if its a vast improvement? I am pushing a Paradigm 7.2 system, about 3000 cubic feet with room treatment. Thinking of adding another sub (SVS PB13-Ultra)
When will the Onkyo flagship models be announced??

I set my 818 on through, can't see any difference in picture quality with upscaling on or off.
If there is a difference it is undetectable.
My samsung provides a terrific picture.
By the way, this is a nice receiver,it was sent to me as a replacement for the problem plagued 807.
I would say it runs about 20 degrees cooler than the 807.

Are you serious
? Do you have any experience with Audyssey XT32? Once again you post an opinion that is so incorrect it is sad. XT32 is quite an upgrade over XT which I know from first hand experience. If you took the time to read the posts from many members here that have gone from XT to XT32 you would know that.So you are suggesting spending $2K plus when someone can buy the 818 for under $1K? What features do you think the newest flagship AVRs will bring to the table that will be worth waiting for?

When will the Onkyo flagship models be announced??I would say XT32 with SubEQ would be a significant upgrade over MultEQ especially if you will be adding a second sub.

Thanks for posting this. I'm going for the price match guarantee they claim to have (15 days guarantee against price drops on their own website).
Should save me $200. Preorder price was a bit higher than $900.

I found the x008 and x009 series to be a faintly substantial upgrade interns of sound quality vs. the x007 series and earlier...
I've owned a lot of AVR's..
Obviously XT32 is an improvement, but there were also changes in the other areas as well...
I found these last two years worth of models to have a smoother and more refined sound... I always found the 905 , 886 and 5007 I briefly tried to be harsh, and sterile..
In my opinion, and having heard most of Onkyo's offerings in my room, I think you will a good deal of upside in an upgrade, especially at these prices..l
Just my .02

Honestly you must have never run the same exact set-up with similar receivers, one with XT and one with XT32. I have the 809 and the 818. The overall improvement in sound produced by the 818 is extremely noticeable. The main audio spec diffference between the 809 and the 818 is the Audyssey upgrade. The 818 blends the lows so much better with the center channel and the fronts. The 818 spreads the bass around the room so much better, never revealing where my Energy VSW 10 is located. The 809 made the location of my subwoofer obvious. That is the last word in Audyssey.
