I am debating between this vs Denon 2313CI... I am getting both at the same price. Which one do you guys think is a better option ?

Woops, that should be 577.47. I had a $30 card in my cart, didn't realize. Still, that was the price when I checked. I see it is a little more expensive now.

Talking to someone at Amazon once, they explained it's based on buying trends. So if people stop or start buying, the price can adjust rapidly. It seems to be stuck at $649 for now.

Buy it as is, if it drops more and you see it, contact them ASAP.

What was the listed price (before tax/shipping) for you?
Looks like the 818 is no longer available as being sold by Amazon.com.

577. $30 credit brought it down to 547, back up to 556.46 with the 8.99 Saturday delivery shipping charge.
It's still 649.95 at BH foto.
I snagged it at $649.95 - $50.00 for Amazon Rewards Gift Card and free shipping (Prime member) for $599.95 total. Best price indicated for me now is $749.00 via Vanns. Happy, happy, joy, joy!

well talk about ironic...my 709 just and i mean just had hdmi board failure after only maybe 18 mos or so of ownership. if my 818 that i just ordered follows the same path i will be done with Onkyo. crossing fingers on the 818 because i know were still talking about this issue with this model. i'm aware of the 24fps bug, and the lack of gapless playback, but still willing to roll the dice. especially for xt32. it's scary to think what the true cost onkyo has on this. i mean 600.00 or less for a bit today on amazon. that's insane...

Anyone? I'd like to jump on the sales if possible.

i just bought this receiver to replace my 4308ci. am i going to be disappointed? anyone with similar upgrade path?

So I have been going through the thread getting prepared. I watch all blu ray at 24 fps on a JVC RS-35. So it looks like the best method of action is to do all system setup on the MAIN hdmi, and the switch over to the SUB hdmi to bypass the 24p issue as well as decrease lag time? Thanks.smile.gif

Yes. Just watch out for CEC (RIHD) automatically switching because it tends to favour the Main output. That only applies if you have HDMI output set to 'Both' rather than 'Sub'.

I just bought the receiver, I am building the complete setup from scratch, can anyone recommend a good set of speakers? I am planning to slowly build the setup so that I do not feel an big financial impact.
Any suggestions for a 2.1 setup will be appreciated .
Thanks.

Also what kind of speaker wires would be needed for this? What all would i need in addition to the receiver to get a basic setup going.

Sorry I am kind of a noob.

I just ordered mine to be delivered next week. Would you please direct me to the post/s re: using both HDMI's but the SUB as the main one to avoid the 24fps issue? I have a Sony HW30 projector I use for all the video (no secondary video as of now).

They are both listed on Onkyo's website. Why not spend the money in your state for $2 and support local business?

I will when they reopen and accept orders, hope they still have them in stock.

Have Black Friday prices for the Onkyo 806,809 been like this too? Because I'm thinking I'll bite next year on the 819 during Black Friday. It should have even more feature enhancement...Talk about counting my chickens, huh?

Do you guys know if Onkyo will release a firmware fix for the 24p issue and gapless playback? What about the issue with the audio dropouts with Dolby digital 2.0?
My thoughts on the 818

Hook up was a snap, although the power cord was flimsy and wouldn't connect tight

I had no issues on the hdmi , the video up converting was excellent great display

sound in natural two channel was a disappointment soundstage was poor , but when sound processing was turned on it was good
internet connectivity in dlna was poor when hooking up to my computer
good mid range receiver only
Pros
Sound when processor was on
internet radio
video up converting

cons
not a knock out sound stage
not great communicator with the computer
dsp modes were few
didn't sound 3d to me

Filmixer, please scroll to the top of this page & read a few paragraphs from here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/24p#section_4

From that info, this is being explained differently, just trying to understand this, please explain what u explained above vs what's being explained at that link, thx.

From that info, this is not a bug

Chad.. my response had nothing to do with the bug that those are experiencing.. it was a correction about what drop frame time code is (and isn't..) wink.gif

What is being discussed by others is how the 818 seems to be handling true 24/48k and 23.98/48k...

Haven't been following what exactly the bug is (or isn't) but that wasn't what my post was referring to at all..
Try to get one at B&H for $649. It is being back ordered now eek.gif
Well, this gives me more time to go through this forum and see if I should wait. I know about gapless playback, but that's not an issue to me. I am more concern about 24p vs 23.97fps playing and what the bug is though.

Hey there airgas, long time, how u been, not happy to hear ur previous post with your 709 hdmi board failure, I'm reading too many posts with exact same issue, even people on 2nd time being repaired, with same end failure, of which is why I'm holding out. My lhx is still working good, take it easy

Ok, thanks, I've been doing a lot of reading with all current brands of mid to high end avr's and trying to see where this has and has not come up, thx

nice to hear from you...i'm willing to give onkyo one more try. i just got the 818 all set-up and so far i like what i see/here. hopefully all will go well with this model. not sure how widespread hdmi board failure is on the 818 i guess we need some more months of progress to see what happens.i never witnessed any 24fps issues on my 709, and am going to try it out on the 818 tonight. if i see it i guess i'll use the alternate sub out for blu-ray playback. anyway take care..

I couldn't pass up the deal at BH for $649 on this unit even though I'm a little nervous about reliability issues after reading about issues that previous models have had last few years. My question is earlier this week I purchased a Denon 3312 at Best Buy on clearance(new unit) for $748. I have 30 days to return the Denon what do you guys think? Which one should I keep? I'm pairing this with an Epson 5020 projector I'm not sure if that would make a difference with the 24fps issue or not? After reading through this thread that is the problem that concerns me most. Is this someting that I should be worried about? Thanks for the help!
