I had a lumagen XD. I do direct, so it pass thru OK. I had not try upscale to 1080p and see if it works or not. That I use my VP to do.

Looking good, but has there been actual proof that the new firmware has fixed the 24, 60fps issues?

New pictures have just been sent (they have to be informed first as a matter of courtesy). wink.gif

Hi, is the 818 compatible with Airplay with the latest firmware?

I have to buy an AVR and I was thinking to 818 or Denon 3313. I use it usually for HT, less for music, is 818 better than Denon?

Actually the static sound I started to hear when I played with Treble, I set it to 4,6,8,10 during music play and as it gets higher I clearly hear that disturbing klick/pop noise and its driving me crazy, then I started to playing with the volume and all the above explanation.

Can someone tell me if he experience same thing?
The easiest way to reproduce the issue (that’s how I did it) :
Connect the iPhone with its original USB 30pin or Lightning cable to front USB slot
Start playing some song
Pause and turn the volume UP all the way

Please tell me if you have or not this static noise?
I hear it at about 60% and higher.

Please advise what I shall do with it, I can’t eat I can’t sleep, it’s so bugging me.

Sorry for my English it’s not my native language.

Please, can someone reproduce the issue so ill know what to do, take the receiver to the service or its natural behavior and ill have to live with it .

Do you get the same noise on all sources - eg if you put a bluray in and pause it and wind the volume all the way up?  You need to determine if it is the AVR or the source that is causing the problem.

No noise here using my Android phone as storage device.

This is certainly the most helpful post regarding the bug yet. Hopefully Patrick from Onkyo understands that;

1. This is a real problem.
2. That with certain display equipment this type of problem produces a visible artifact.

Here's to hoping.

Can't wait to see your results after testing with the new FW.

Thanks Killian. Are you implying that the bug is still there, and you want to tell them before posting proof publicly? I'm stuck at work and can't test today, and I don't have a VP anyway, but encouraged by JMPage's recent post that he hasn't seen the issue since installing the new firmware. Can't wait for some proof one way or the other! Thanks to all here that are working on this (and to Onkyo for at least attempting a firmware fix, which hopefully does the trick).

killian,

How did you have the 818 setup? Source>Direct? Or doesn't it matter?

Jmpage2 have you tested out the new firmware yet, if so what were the results?

Great news. The 24P buy is getting resolved.

To all the folks who posted here and contact Onkyo: Great Job.
Without you, this fix not have happened.

To all those who felt the thread was hijacked: Rejoice, the resale value of your 818 just went up.
Get the firmware upgrade first of course smile.gif

Amen! Most of us figured even if we raised our voices, they'd ignore us, but we posted on Onkyo's forum, and posted some brutally honest amazon reviews, and called Onkyo directly, and they listened. I'm still waiting for VP confirmation before I put this to bed, but very pleased to see things moving in the right direction.

I have my Audyssey settings saved on my 818. If I were to turn off all Audyssey processing and manually calibrate would I be able to go back to those Audyssey settings or would I lose them and have to rerun the setup?

Yes, just checked with my streamer (Popcorn c-200) during play of the movie I pause it and turn volume up and from about 50% of volume I hear the popping electric sound. ;(

I just paused live TV on my SA8300 (connected via HDMI) and set the volume to reference (0 db). Dead silence. If I stick my ear right up to the speaker, I can hear a very faint hiss. Iphone hooked up to front panel via lightning cable gives same result. You should not be getting noise from a digital connection. Have you tried an input that has nothing connected?

So I got the 818 up and running and discovered a disappointment . I am driving a separate TV in my garage using HDMI sub but cannot get the audio to it. Video is fine no audio. If I select Audio TV out to ON, audio is output via the HDMI but then the audio in the main room (receiver) is off. I guess I didn't study this very well. Never thought the receiver would not send the audio via the HDMI. Contemplating my options..... Running more wires is NOT an attractive option. I welcome any thought or suggestions.

So far it seems to output the correct frame-rate for 23.98p, 24.00p, 50.00i and 59.94i sources. I've not heard from Onkyo since I sent the pictures. I'll watch more discs and continue to monitor.smile.gif

I can't remember off my head but whatever setting was doing it wrong before now does it correctly.

Glad the 24p bug is being resolved, now if only they could do something about the networking/audio dropouts and lack of gapless playback. rolleyes.gif

Yes we did while other end users verbally attacked us for it but though they get to reap the benifits!!!!!!!!

Can you set the onkyo to output 1080p for 59.94 material and look at the fame rate in your edge? We need confirmation on a few different settings, it seems like on your settings of direct and source it passed 23.976fps unaltered but we need to test setting the output when taking 1080i in and outputting 1080p out and making sure 59.94 stays unaltered. Lets also test 23.976 material in custom mode for those that like to tweek the image some, 23.976 material needs to be unaltered in this mode also. Thanks for posting your results.

Thanks to all of you who pursued the 24p issue. Also glad to see its headed towards a resolution.

While I haven't observed it, I do want to know for sure the unit is operating correctly and that we get the video processing we paid for.

Now maybe there is some hope that they will fix the same bug in previous models... My Integra DTR-50.2 suffers from the same issue with 23.98 fps.
Have both 80.2 and 818 and both suffer with it also, finely some hope.rolleyes.gif

That's what intrigues me...that relatively few people notice this in other Onkyo AVR's.
I realize that there was some discussion as far back as the 606 but what of all the 3xxx and 5xxx, the flagship receivers of the last few years, how could they not also be affected, seeing that they share the same VP as many of the mid-lines as they do in the current 818.

When this bug was first found and being posted about incessantly here, by the more evangelical members, I thought that it was simply a minor quirk somewhat akin to the lack of gapless playback (which probably affects less than .000001% of recordings ever made) and one that many people never observed and was simply limited to a small group of purists who were like the kid in "The 6th Sense", but instead of dead people they saw dropped frames, and I really wished they would have just bought 3010/5010 receivers instead and clutter up that thread.

But I was wrong and I now thank them for their efforts and perseverance to get Onkyo to step up and at least acknowledge the problem and work to find a fix.

Well done.
After we get the VP worked out I wonder if we can get Onkyo to release a firmware package upgrade, which would include Audyssey Sub EQ HT. Denon released a firmware upgrade package a few years ago for $100 that included Audyssey Dynamic EQ along with other upgrade features.
