"Please send your requests for the firmware update to the following email address askOnkyo@us.onkyo.com; we are monitoring the transmission of this F/W update and will monitor all feedback. Have a great evening!!
I got it, too! I'll go ahead and stick it on my USB drive and let someone else tell me if it's safe!!!
As I posted before, the number seems higher, even though the file is dated from July 2012. But, when I tried to intall it, it won't install, the 818 just gives me the "Current Firmware" status message, which means that the firmware I already have installed is a later version -- go figure. For reference, this is the firmware number of the "test firmware" for the 24p bug fix:
1110-8103-0101-0000
This is the number for the one they just sent out dated 07-24-2012:
1141-0108-0400
It seems this second one does in fact have less digits, at least, but who can keep track of how they number these things?
Oddly enough, they just sent me a third email with the "test" firmware again.

Complete guess... But...
Perhaps the additional "-0000" represents a developer or beta build and the "1141-0108-0400" is a release rebranding (which is the same, just labeled differently) that might end up at all customers...
saw it posted in the 'great deals found' thread and wanted to mention it here. B & H is offering the 818 for $599 free shipping. Just ordered 1. You must call the order in. credit to dazoy for original post.

I couldn't pass this up. I ordered one also... it's true!
I was going back and forth between this and a Denon 2313... There are obvious pros/cons, but the price and the 24fps fix (hopefully!) made me go with the 818...
IMHO, the 818 wins on...
1) Better Audyssey XT32
2) Better video processing (if you need it)
3) More HDMI inputs (+ 2 outputs)
4) THX certified (if you care)
5) and this one is silly, but I couldn't get over how light the new Denons are. 818 is 2x as heavy.
Negatives?
1) It doesn't have Airplay (but I have an airport express)
2) "Spotty" quality in past generations Edited by MadMyers - 2/6/13 at 12:53pm
Just picked one up too! Half MSRP price and free shipping is fantastic! Been teetering between this and the Denon 3313. Couldn't pass up XT32 at this price!
Hello folks. Ive been following this thread for a while now and just got the fortitude to post because I'm going to jump on that great B & H deal for the 818. Does any one know of a great blue ray player that has high end audio for a nice B&W speaker system on a budget of $500 or less?

I use B&W 6833 ,685'600 cent. Oppo 103 or Sony 790' had Sony but sold got the oppo really either just a preference for the oppo I also added the roku stick all works great for me.
William- are you running your Oppo direct to your tv or through a receiver/amp? The great reviews on the Oppo 103 are as a "stand-a-alone" device rather than its audio prowess being run through and external device, (ie. receiver/amp). Have you tried it both ways? direct and indirect? Did you see any difference in video quality?
My Onkyo 818 has a THQV Vida VHD1900 video processor which says that it enhances the quality of high-definition sources as well as standard-definition sources. The Onkyo's HQV StreamClean technology also alleges that it does a nice job in cleaning up the lower quality online sources. With the ISF Video Calibration I would think that video input sources look their best. So,..I think that I wouldn't lose any video quality; rather have the ability to even further enhance it. Do I have this right or not?
I found a workaround the analog zone 2. Plug RCA cables from the L/R Front Pre-outs into analog input.
That's a good idea, but kind of limited, and really not much different than simply running the analog out from your source in the 1st place... unless somehow this is letting you get audio from ANY input on the AVR to zone 2/3.

Perhaps this also points to a closeout --- like an earlier post said Crutchfield cannot get them anymore?
I did see the Crutchfield "closeout" remark... but I would think they'd have a replacement announced before they discontinued a current model year product. Besides, this AVR hits all the right buttons, for me, as far as features I want without having to pay for more features I don't need. YMMV.
thanks again to dazoy for finding and sharing this deal.

Makes sense, I wonder how that would affect the 818 from recognising further new updates, though? If the number actually changes and it still sees it as the same firmware version, (or older) there must be something else in there keeping it from updating again.
So to those who were able to get the firmware beta, did it definitively correct the 24fps bug?
Yes, it also partially corrected the audio dropout problem for me if anyone cares. High-res audio dropouts (48/24 and higher, sometimes 44.1/24 and up) no longer occur when choosing DLNA option, but still occur when choosing "Home Media" option.
