Yeah I'm set with my 818 for awhile too. It takes a pretty big feature upgrade for me to retire stuff before it dies.

How has your experience been being able to go back and forth between 2EQ and MultiEQ XT32?

Hmm. Maybe I should hold off on getting a 818 until the 828 comes out, might be a decent price drop for the 818.

^^^ Until 4K becomes common, or some other major audio or video format shift, I'm set. For a while.

Looks like the 727 is MultEQ

Your 818 supports 4k, but you prolly know that.

I don't believe it will accept a 4K input. It will upscale 1080P to 4K though. 4K pass through would be nice, but I suppose many early 4K sources will be dual output to support us "legacy" AVR owners.

I am pretty sure if the AV can upscale 1080p to 4k, it has the power to pass it through. An update would surely allow this.

^^^
All three new models are up on Onkyo USA site: http://www.onkyousa.com/prod_class.cfm?class=Receiver&Source=caroseulmenu

Interesting to see that the 727 only has Audyssey MultiEQ - not XT or XT32. So, Onkyo would jump from MultiEQ to MultiEQ XT32 between adjacent models.

The 717 has 2EQ so it is an upgrade. The 828 should have XT32 just like the 818.

We can hope, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. I'm still rockin a 3 year old plasma and 5.1, so my gear is not quite as state of the art as some here with 9.2 and 4K projectors! I never bought into 3D and I think 4K is going to take a long while to find its way into my home, so it probably doesn't make much difference.

It's on the onkyo facebook page

Ok this from a foreign site translated... It's not the best of translations but I think we can expect an 828 soon and the last bit would be great

From 2013 to the Technology ONKYO AVR is godfather to launch the latest generation of AVR. TX-NR424 TX-NR626 TX-NR727 TX-NR828 hands with audyssey to set new standards with the new AVR for audio with 9.2-11.2ch though.

11.2 must be for the 828 ?

I should show the original text

The difference is like night and day I have the 616 in my den which is a much smaller room then my main viewing room. As you know the 616 is a basic audyssey room calibration but it's good enough for the room it's in. When it comes to the 818 the audyssey calibration really seems to fill the room. MultiEQ XT32 is nice because it asks you to adjust the DB on my subs.

You can only hope. As the newer models support pass through. I doubt they'll make a FW upgrade for the 818. They want that money and will make you buy a new one. :\

I just got my 818 and setup it last night. The weirdest thing is happening. On the home menu: Network Service, USB, and Firmware options are disabled. There are also options in the setup menu that are disabled as well like the network. Any ideas? I did not see anything in the troubleshooting section of the manual.
Did it find your network?

It did when I setup it up. Now I cannot look if it has an IP on the device.

I can't remember who asked for 4K pass through, but you have your wish in the 727 so I can only imagine that the 828 if it arrives would have it also. I noticed also that there is tune in radio on there, if this app is fluid enough this could make me dig into my pockets !

what are you people smoking $25,000 so you are going to have dig deep in your pocket. 4K is great but until the price point gets better and more content is here, i'm not that thrilled about 4K. I just spent a small fortune to upgrade all my stuff for 3D. So 4K IS EXCITING but i know it's not going to be in my budget for years.
do you remember when HD was first available there was a big back and forth between HD and Blu-ray. Years later Blu-ray was the winner. Then you had to Wait for it seemed forever that TV stations started brodcasting in HD.
so i think 4K is years away from happening i may be wrong but its going to be a huge expense.
I'm going to enjoy what i have MY TX-NR818 My 3D TV My 3D BLU-RAY PLAYER and Directv.

At least it's an improvement from the 2EQ but I'd still like to see onkyo have a midline MultiEQ XT receiver. Well the 818 is priced midline so that's even better. I wonder if it was a package deal to get the XT32 affordable but keep the lower level Audyssey in the model lines right below. Just seems so weird to me. Awesome we get the XT32 at this price point but then such a huge dropoff. It really takes those other models out of contention for those that understand the audyssey levels.

There used to be a mid-line Onkyo--my 709! It was the best deal going at the time with MultEQ XT. The 717 then became the worst deal going with only 2EQ. Now that the 727 has at least MultEQ, that's an improvement.

Now we'll see if the 828 retains XT32. My guess is it won't. Sure, it's a step up from the cheaper models (heavier, taller), but if the entry-level "good" AVR has basically the same feature set as Onkyo's next, what, three higher models, who would buy those? All you were basically getting was a little more power.

It was always ridiculous (although fortunate for you guys) that Onkyo's AVR line went from the 717 with 2EQ to the 818 with XT32.

Yup.. it's possible that the 828 might just stick it out with MultiEQ XT, and have you bump up to higher models for MultiEQ XT32. I have my 818 now, so I am not bothered anyway until at least the next model year brings some new tech to the market. 4K is at least 3-4 years away for me.

MutEQ XT seems appropriate to the 8XX price point and position in Onkyo's line (assuming MSRP stays about the same). I believe other AVR's that feature XT32 also include "Installer Ready" (PRO)capability and SubEQ. The 818 has neither, so it seems a bit the odd man out. Not that I'm complaining that my 818 has XT32 :-) .
I think Onkyo hit a home run with getting XT32 out at this price point...SubEQHT and Pro ready would change the price point. Personally I would never use either of those features. Instead of dropping the 500 into the pro kit I would just get more PEQ channels. And my minidsp + REW set-up makes SubEQHT redundant for me.

Wow that would be a big mistake in my mind if the 828 doesn't have XT32. It'll certainly boost 818 sales though. Interested to find out.

If the 828 comes out without XT32 I recommend all those buyers waiting to see grab the 818 ASAP.

I have an issue deciding what to do. I have my 818 setup for 9.1 and need to get an amp for either the FH or SR speakers, I've been looking at the XPA-200 but then got to thinking maybe I should get the XPA-5 and put the all the front speakers on it and let the 818 run the rears. What do you think would be the better way to go, I'm driving myself crazy? LOL

That's why I got an 818 over 717 when I couldn't find a 709 locally. And my Denon 2313 fried after only 1week :-)

You can only get 9.2 no matter what you do. SB/FH OR SB/FW OR FH/FW
