Everything went fine until It got to the center speaker. The Audyssey bleeps came out my my tv speakers which are turned off and then the receiver powered down. I inspected the cables and discovered my fault! I shorted the 818 twice! I fixed everything and unplugged the center channel cables completely as I wanted to make sure no info was being sent to my tv speakers and I ran audyssey and setup without a hitch. I also played battlefield 4 for a few hours without any problems.
However, I do not know if it is a placebo effect because I am now looking for an issue but I noticed a slight hum from the 818 when it is powered on as well as a similar hum with a higher pitch to it coming from my LED tv. I took my xbox one's hdmi out of the 818 and plugged it into the tv with the receiver off and the hum was no longer present. I went to check all of my equipment and my sub sounds like there is a very slight wind blowing from the woofer, I have to be right in front of it to hear it. My Klipsch also have a very minimal hiss but as I understand any high sensitivity speaker will have this?
My questions are, does the 818 normally have a faint hum to it or should it be completely silent? what damage could shorting it out cause and could It also have damaged my speakers? I tried plugging the receiver straight into the wall, unplugging all other components and the hum still persists from the 818. when my xbox or playstation are on they drown out any of the sound I have mentioned but it is all highly distracting when I first turn everything on.
I appreciate any help. It is definitely a learning process, understanding the do's and don'ts, what, if's and about's to home theater. I have followed all of the threads for my equipment I planned on purchasing for the last 8 months and I still end up having all sorts of questions. Thanks!
