Vizio M3D550KD - Page 9

post #241 of 687
Just picked up one of these for $899 at costco "last one". So far its awesome, huge upgrade over my 5 year old 47" lg. 3d works great and thankfully its passive 3d so no batteries to charge up.

I honestly might return my harmony one remote and just use the included one. It controls both my xbox 360 and windows media pc and since just switching inputs on the tv changes what the buttons on the remote do, i think it can replace my harmony. We will see.

edit: also the TV still has a IR input. My harmony one controls it fine.

Now that I understand that Vizio implemented the following color presets:

Cool = Cool
Computer = Neutral
Normal = Warm

I've been happy using Computer for my color correction. I'm not sure I like it quite as much as the Panasonic TC-P46GT24 (plasma), but I'm going to keep it.

Looks like this is CNET's best rated LED TV, right? They have the 47" model at Sam's for $748 and the 55" for $1098. I'm gonna buy two of the 47" from Amazon and get them to price match, so I don't have to pay sales tax at Sam's.

Edit: They will only price match one TV per their terms and conditions. Dang. $748 seems like a steal to me.

CNET rated the Vizio as the BEST LED tv? I'd take that review with a big grain of salt.

Why would you take it with a grain of salt? Do you not value CNET's reviews?

Just picked one up a Costco and I do like the picture so far. Don't like the menus, remote or the build quality. Watched half of Blade Runner last night and saw some blooming in the black letter bars but the picture itself looked pretty good. Seems funny that someone posted a bunch of pics of this tv with a light behind it to show the black level. All in all the blacks seem pretty good, I was hoping for better but then I maybe looking for too much out of a lcd. I have never had a plasma at home, just a couple dlp projectors and a dlp tv and I have started becoming very critical of black levels, I would really like the letter bars to be black. Oh well maybe I need to build my masking system for my projector and be done with it....

I have the 47" version of this TV. It has severe lip-sync issues. I can correct them somewhat with the audio settings on the TV, but the problem varies from channel to channel and source to source, IE: I can get it dialed in pretty well for a TV channel, but then when I switch to my Roku, it will be completely screwed up again.

I tried reporting it to Vizio, and their support was worthless, they had me power cycle everything and hold the power button down with the set unplugged. Naturally it didn't fix the problem. I like the TV's picture, but this audio sync stuff drives me nuts. So, I am going to return it to Costco and buy a Sony HX850 instead.

You should try turning off all the smooth motion and other processing in the advanced menu.

I take any professional reviewer's comments with a grain of salt. They are a good place to start but I tend to give more weight to the folks here who have them in their homes and not some sterile review lab. Customer support is also a key factor in my decision-making process and that is not part of CNET's review process. One gets a better feel for the actual usefulness of the options, overall build, performance, and support from actual owners than a paid reviewer.

I would imagine that if you cram all that content and detail into a 47" screen, you would really be peaking it. You have to stop and remember that as you approach 60" and more, 1080 becomes a MUST due to the sheer size of the screen. Obviously the processing must change and the content in every square inch of television screen becomes larger and must be prcessed differntly. WHo knows though, perhaps I have it backwards - and its that the smaller the overall screen, the more detail the is to cram in a square inch and thus the more work for the TV? But I suspect the opposite. I have the 55". SO I wonder is the 47 and the 60" models have the same tuning LAG time I experience? Is everyone still getting that issue..?....

I just tried these settings and I like 'em so far. This TV definitely needs some tweaking before the picture looks acceptable. I have to wonder how many people returned these sets without trying to adjust the settings. Because the stock settings are garbage. frown.gif

Some people just don’t understand that you have to tinker with your electronics to get the best out of them. I remember a few years back when I would go over to all my friends’ houses with HDTV’s and say why aren’t you using your HDTV to show actual HD and for the most part they thought they were but they were only running 480p.

Read your manual, know your settings and make the best of them.

Does anybody know how to enable the ARC via HDMI on this set? Also does anyone know how to manually check for firmware updates?

LOL!!! So true.

My "know-it-all" brother in law ran his HDTV for a good 10 years using composite 480i outputs from his Dish Network box, with the 4:3 signal stretched out to 16:9, and had no idea he had the thing hooked up wrong. Actually I have two different brothers in law who did this. I tried dropping some hints but was met with really dismissive attitudes from both. Oh well . . .

I am a gamer myself, and I notice little to no lag on this set. I have owned most of the HDTV techs from CRT, DLP, Plasma, CCFL LDC and now LED LCD. This set is the best performer over all. Though not as fast as my Plasma, this sets colors are better and energy usage is great. So long story short I have gamed on all of the types of sets and this one is very good I game on. Even ran a test of Burnout Paradise (my screen lag go to test game) just for you. Lo and behold no lag at all!

There is also a game mode setting.

Really appreciate the help. Gaming lag was the only thing that would hold me back from getting this TV so its nice to hear that its not an issue. Im coming from a Panasonic ST30 plasma so hopefully Im ok with this TV. How is the picture for those of you that have the TV? Pictures would be awesome if anybody has any!

Also, does anyone know where I can get a good deal on wither the 47 or 55 inch? Or should I hold off until Black Friday? Thanks again I appreciate all the help I can get

Would really love to see pictures of your set. That would be awesome if you can do that for me... Where did you purchase your 55 inch?

Ok perfect. Will try and purchase this ASAP. Really hoping there is no gaming lag. Thanks again for the help.
