Yep, the reported features in this thread seem just about as reliable as the secondhand "news" from this guy:

I would finally like to see a fully DSX capable pre-pro several years after the introduction by Audyssey! I know the Onkyo PR-SC5509 does wides+heights if you leave the rear surrounds out, but I want it all. I always presumed the Marantz AV8003 successor would use the processor of the 11.1 capable Denon 4311, so only 9.2 would be a bummer. Especially at $3K, significantly more than the very similar Onkyo 5507 and the same as the Denon 4311 AVR (that has amps of course). Let's wait and see if it at least sounds better than the Denon and Onkyo.

Not much incentive to upgrade over an AV7005 - unless you're running 4K Blu-ray or really think XT32 would make much difference.

I'd also like to see:

1* Blutooth remote

2* Spunkier GUI

3* User Memory slots to store different system recalls (common on the Denons)

4* Bigger, better Audyssey microphone for greater monitoring accuracy

5* On the front display panel - two sets of boxes to indicate the number of Input AND output channels.
(Common on the Denons - see here)

6* An option to run or route more than one pair of Side Surround channels
(surprised no pre/pros offer this, considering commercial cinemas and mixing theatres run multiple surrounds down the sides)

Curious if it sounds any 'better'. And if it's true 9.1 (compared to 7.1 on the AV7005)
^^
AFAIK no, just as the Denon 3311CI is a near clone of the AV/SR7005, so will the 3313CI be of the AV/SR7007, so 7.2 only.
So no new info on the XT32 rumor on the AV 7007? No news is bad news...
^^
Didn't know it was a rumor ... the AV/SR7007 is XT only just as with the 3313CI.

jd,

Is the prepro going to be the AV7007 or the AV7701?

Bill

AFAIK the AV7007 .... the 7701 may be a non-USA offering as already suggested.

I understand. Was there a non USA version of the AV7005? If not then maybe Marantz (D&M) is taking a different direction in the model designation for the prepro. Similar to what Denon is doing with the 4520 instead of it being the 4313.

It's certainly possible .... D&M should be releasing more info by summer's end.
Honestly, does D&M see anyone upgrading to an AV7007 from an AV7005? I don't see the point without XT32 and some additional features.
Not likely, unless as you say a new feature is needed ... just as there is no reason to go from the 3311CI to the 3313CI.

Bingo. XT32 is a must, I say. smile.gif

Any news?
i played with the new SR model and the GUI is MUCH improved. i am contemplating upgrading just for the improved gui. I am assuming of course that the SR and AV will receive the same GUI updates. frankly the AV7005 has an archaic looking GUI compared to many recievers on the market from the last few years.

Latest news I heard was no XT32. The initial information I got was it would have it. This is becoming an issue for dealers. I am hearing that the primary reason to upgrade is the 3-year warranty. Not a lot over the 7005, why spend the money.
I’ve been asking about getting an audyssey pro kit with the 7007 and just spend the $250 to calibrate it myself.
Not only would the bump up to XT32 be a much better improvement in audio fidelity over using the Pro Kit with XT, but unless you can buy the kit used (or borrow one), the kit new would cost $550 + $150 for the license.
if the new av7007 does not have xt32, id be very surprised.
According to the CEDIA PDF of new product announcements (http://www.cedia.net/expo/documents/ProductLaunches.pdf) it is the AV7701, but no real details are listed there beyond this. I don't know anything more, I'm sure I'll ask about getting it in for a review.
My guess is the AV7701 will not have XT32. The SR7007 and the Denon 3313 do not have it so that leads me to believe the AV7701 will not have it either. I think D&M wants people looking for XT32 to spend the big bucks on either the AV8801 or the 4520. Thats too bad as Onkyo has AVRs around $1k that have XT32. So it looks like many looking for XT32 in an affordable AVR will pass on Denon/Marantz and go with Onkyo.

It's already being advertised on the European sites with only XT.

Also, now that the model number has been confirmed, the thread title needs to be changed to 7701.

Which confirmation? From Marantz?

BTW, this was posted weeks ago:
http://www.avland.co.uk/aasp/marantz/1220/av7701/av-7701.asp

For the rest it's indeed inapprehensible as to why it doesn't have XT32. Only reason I can think of is that the processing power is inadequate for XT32 and thus that hints the AV7701 is little more than a AV7005 with an updated nametag, only to help sales.

Nevermind, I want 11.2 anyway. AV8801 it is called. Confirmed by me.
I got tired of waiting for Marantz and bought a Integra 80.3 for $2k. It has XT32 and does everything you will need.

The CEDIA note in post #51. Also note, that avland has been wrong in the past ... in fact, IIRC, they were the ones who posted that the Denon 3313 had XT32. eek.gif

Thanks for the confirmation.

I'm actually quite interested in the 7701. 4K support including overlay is quite useful for future proofing and audio quality should be similar to the 7005 which was good.

Are Secrets going to start 4K video testing? I know its somewhat academic at this stage but we have 4K processors, displays and a PC with a modern graphics card could output 4K test material.

The last many above comments reminds me of photography forums where the nuances of the yet to be released lense or body is discussed. tongue.gif

I used to own an Integra (885) and the sounds quality couldn't hold a candle to my Marantz that I purchased afterwards. Enjoy your 80.3.

^^^did your integra have XT32?
