Dead zone on display

I posted in the PX600 owner thread, but no replies, hoping to get some general guidance here:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...6#post22074876

I have a Panasonic TH-58PX600U, about 4 years old, having some technical problems, would like to know what to do.

It is experiencing problems in a specific rectangle on the display only.
Sometimes no problems.
Sometimes the red pixels are offset.
Sometimes the entire block changes color.
Location and problem is independent of source device or resolution.

What is this type of issue called?
What is involved fixing it?

Thank you.
P.

Unfortunately if you didn't get extended warranty your out of luck. Might as well get a new tv since it would cost the same or more to repair.

Can't say I've seen a description of a problem like yours let alone know what might cause it. Seems hopeful that sometimes it's not there. You don't mention firmware upgrades (or even if that's an option)...are you up-to-date? Have you posted in the related brand/model/model range thread(s)?

If the firmware updates etc. that everyone else recommends doesn't work and you are throwing in the towel I would check the connections on the buffer boards?

According to this Panasonic document, it appears it is the plasma panel that is defective.

However, I would try CaTaSTrOphiK's recommendation first by checking the cable connections.

Thank you, very informative.
Mostly points to panel, possibly D Board on page 14.

I'll give Panasonic Plasma Concierge a call, not much hope, but I would like a diagnosis before I replace the TV.
