Make all components same brand to get reliable/fast HDMI sync?

I have had nothing but HDMI trouble with my 3 yr old TX-SR606 Onkyo ($400, 7.1, 90 w/ch).
A warranty repair replaced the HDMI board. That fixed the failed port, but still, I could not let the unit cool down (standby) or I'd have to wait 15-20 min for it to re-sync. (I kept it on 24/7)
Granted, that was a problem. Nevertheless, now that I am finally replacing the Onkyo rcvr, I'm tempted to go all Sony to match my Sony Blu-ray (with which I am very happy), and eventually a Sony TV as well (with Bravia/widget feature).
I know most here don't think much of Sony. I'm not a demanding audiophile, I just want reliable, fast HDMI sync from a $200-$300 rcvr.
(Yes I know cable quality counts too)

Thanks for any input.

Not very much.

Though no 1st hand exp. with it, I have read here that poor cable quality will indeed affect sync.

Anyway, my question is more along the lines of the advantage of matching components and manufacturers at each end of the HDMI cable. Does that help? (Possibly due to similar circuit design & chipset sourcing within a given company?)

What IS a good time for HDMI port switching? 2 sec? 5 sec? 25-30 sec like my Onkyo? (20 min when cold!)

Don't know if it would actually help, but it would definitely make the blame game more difficult, if you are using components of all the same brand.

Poor quality cables can be a factor but if you get certified High Speed HDMI cables you can pretty much rule that out (and you don't need to pay "monster" prices for them). HDMI hardware specs are set to standards (1.3, 1.3a, 1.4) so the mfr shouldn't make a difference. I have an LG LCD, a Panansonic BD player, a Yamaha receiver, an ATV2 and all of them have no sync issues at all.

Early implementations of HDMI were often faulty. My guess is that the older Onkyo receiver did not implement HDMI correctly, and the Sony BD player may also be at fault.

If you're buying a new receiver of any brand, by now it shouldn't have the same issues as the Onkyo. I would look at buying whatever brand you want, try it for a week or two and you should know if it's going to work correctly. Be sure you can return it without penalty just in case.

As noted, not really. See the others comments.

Thanks guys for the feedback.
I'm going to watch the price on Yamaha's RX V571. It's in my price range and seems to have good reviews.
