G'Day All - This is my 1st post on these Forums and I'm pretty sure I've come to the right place for a definitive answer.
I have an old Pioneer VSX-D858TX Receiver and for years it's been sitting unused so I decided to upgrade the speaker cables, source cables and added a Blu-Ray Player (Pioneer BDP-140).
I have the BDP hooked up via a Toslink cable and have selected bitstream for the audio. The Receiver only does Dolby Digital and DTS.
I have some Blu-Ray music concerts that just arrived from Amazon UK and when playing them the Receiver emits a loud popping noise when playback is started - pops then goes mute and pops again when sound resumes. Same when skipping tracks or muting. The display changes to stereo and there is no sound for a few seconds.
The popping sound is enough to make you cringe and worry about the speakers.
It does not happen when playing CD's or DVD's and I'm thinking it's something to do with the digital signal selection or the fact that it cannot decode Dolby HD - actually I have no ideas what's going on!!
The Receiver has no HDMI inputs.
Any advice or suggestions most welcome as I fear I am damaging my speakers.
Edit: Got a new amp - but thanks for the advice!!
Thank You.
