"The last update had the big spoiler news that Leonard Nimoy would be returning for his role as Spock Prime and the Benedict Cumberbatch was playing the classic villain role of Khan Noonien Singh. Now both of these spoilers are (apparently) being denied."

In other words...it's Khan. Book it, done.

I'd prefer he wasn't either. The original cast and crew are all respected and all but the current cast IMO is strong enough to stand on its own. Also, a storyline can get to feel pressed to put these original members in and it in fact becomes a distraction. No necessarily recommending it but IMO they'd be better off using the original cast as random cameos, like Stan Lee in the Marvel films.

Oh God, that wouldn't work at all. They can get away with using Stan Lee because he's not associated with any character in the Marvel universe. But more people recognize, for example, Walter Koenig as Chekov than as Walter Koenig - you can't just drop him into a Star Trek film and expect people to believe he's anyone except Chekov.

Nimoy is integral to this timeline.

His actions begat this entire new timeline of star trek... come on you knuckleheads. :-)
