Hi Laserfan....bout to sit down to dinner, but will answer you a little later with details. Tools: Tsmuxer to extract video. Eac3to and More GUI for audio extraction (corrects -9ms delay) , Tsmuxer to join just video, Megui to re encode, Tsmuxer to mux complete video and audio.

The first cut my wife and I saw before it was released was slightly different. The ending we first saw made it seem like she was dreaming but we weren't really sure. We had a discussion on the way home about it. When it was released a few weeks later we went back and saw it, we both new the ending was slightly different and it was definitely implied that she died.

We had actually gone to see Alien:Resurrection that day. After that movie was over, there was a screening going on in the main auditorium where Alien was supposed to be showing. There were no signs or anything and not many people were seated. I decided to sneak in and see what it was. I wasn't really in the mood to sit through another movie after Alien: Resurrection but I was curious. I figured it had to be Titanic or the new Bond film. When I realized it was Titanic, I decided to stay since I had always been interested in the story of what happened to the ship. I had no idea what I was in for. I remember near the end, when Jack let go, my wife was using a tissue to wipe away the tears. We were seated upfront so I decided to turn around and see if everyone else was having the same reaction. Not a dry eye in the house. Never seen so many tissues in hand at a movie before. Later, at the end during the reunion scene, I turned around for another look, tissues everywhere. I knew that Titanic was going to be big.

We always thought it was a nice bittersweet ending. They were reunited but that doesn't change what happened to all the passengers, it didn't take away from the horrible catastrophe. Rose was able to experience life while Jack and many of the passengers did not. It's an opened ending left to one's interpretation. YMMV.

I still haven't watched my 3D copy yet. We went to see it in 3D at the theater and my wife told me as soon as the music started during the opening scene, she was about to cry and didn't want to mess up the glasses. She was absolutely insistent that I buy a copy, and now she doesn't want to watch it *sigh*. Something to do with too emotional, crying, etc... you know (some of you anyway).

Well, one question maybe: how to join the Audio?

IMO, if storage space is not a problem and if your player can read AVCHD/BD folder structure from an external drive, I'd recommend you don't use any further compression at all.

In that case, all you need to do is follow two simple steps:

First, use Clown_BD to remux each disc with just the main audio and subtitle streams that you want (with the bonus that Clown_BD will automatically manage audio delays and fix some other issues like removing dialog normalization.)

Then you just have to use ts_muxer to join the two playlists of the remuxes you've created.


I'm used to backing up my BDs in movie only modes and storing dozens of movies on a single external HD so I can simply choose the movie from a list and play them. No adds, no menus, no promos, no forced subs and with the added feature of placing the subtitles inside the movie frame and removing audio issues like dialog normalization.

BTW, I've performed this merging solution with Ten Commandments.

No problem for Tsmuxer because one stream only is not 3D, just a standard *.m2ts stream (media info shows "2nd video component" which disappears later).

Once you enter the completed video into Tsmuxer, then enter the first audio stream.
Then Press the "join" button on the right and navigate to the second audio stream.

Press Bu-Ray option and it will mux to a complete BD structure.

Edit: Forgot to mention that you have to install AnyDvd, which is available as 21 day trial.

As you may already know, the other programs mentioned are Freeware.

Given that some of the details get scrubbed for 3D, it will be interesting to note if that aspect is noticable when viewing "half of the 3D"! Though it seems when the little red-haired girl is on-screen I seem not to notice much of anything else!

Yea, that's some "little girl".

The image comparison in my post #234 were not mine, but from another forum. They compare the 3D with the 2D, and the 3D is certainly missing detail.

However, when I compare my single eye 2D, 1.78:1 ar encode with the original 2D , 2.35:1 ar, the detail is virtually identical.
I don't know enough about 3D to be able to explain this.

The wisps of hair are still gone.

Instead of mucking-around with extracting the left-side image from the 3D, I should probably just buy a new player-and-projector. But I'm pretty sure the wife would not appreciate another $4K of investment just to see my Kate in 3D!

No need to extract the left-side image from the 3D: AnyDVD HD can force a 3D title to play as 2D with a single command. Unfortunately, you would need a player that can play the resulting files or burn to a BD-50.

But you said the detail was identical, and clearly it is not (wisps of hair). Maybe I don't understand the point you were making.

My point was that there is far more detail in the open matte 2D wisps of hair then there is in the 3D screen shot, in my OP (post #234).

Bottom line is that there is a choice of aspect ratio for those of us that are still in the 2D realm. Quite honestly Laser, I'm not sure which one I prefer because there is also a slight difference in the colors. Many viewers downright despise the black bars on a 16X9 display, and, after all, this is a very loooong movie .

The open matte 3-D version is cropped in a few vfx shots so the hell with it.

Seems all the vfx shots have been cropped on the sides. It may not be much but it's there, or not there. Either way, open matte sucks.

In those caps at least the open matte shots look fuzzier also.

Also, I'm not sure if the Oppo 93/95 can force 3D->2D with the latest firmware, but there is an option to force 3D which could be construed as simulating connected 3D display: it's a little confusing.

Dumb question of the day: has everyone who's watched this three-hour-plus movie in 3D, with maybe one or two (or three) potty breaks, done so without experiencing head- or tummy-aches?

I just gotta ask, cuz I don't know anybody with a 3D projection setup, and how-do-I-know if spending, say, $3 or $4K on a new projector won't be a bust when I find-out 3D makes me or my wife sick.

I don't think it's a dumb question, but, unfortunately, this appears to be a case of "your mileage may vary." I've never had any problem with headaches or any other side effects when watching 3D blu-rays on my system (Panasonic 310 blu-ray player and Panasonic 65VT25 plasma). I thought Titanic looked great, particularly for a 2D to 3D conversion.

Your best bet may be to find a friendly local AV store that will let you watch an entire 3D movie on their system before you make any purchase. If that option's not available to you, look for a store with a generous return policy. Then, you and your wife can try it in your own home and decide for yourselves.

I think that it depends on the movie. Prometheus didn't bother me one bit. There's a fair bit of debate on just how 3D it is, but that's another can of worms. Captain America has great post-conversion 3D and it really bothers me. Titanic is post-conversion and I sat through the whole thing with no problems.

Also, since 3D forces you to constantly focus on close/far objects, I think that 3D becomes easier on the eyes the more you watch it. I have certainly found that once nauseating, blurry action scenes are now much more discernable to my eyes now that they are more "trained." Just my 0.02.

Thanks for those replies, they are very encouraging. BTW I have a friend (a thousand miles away, unfortunately) who just got a 3D TV and thought Captain America was great. I understand YMMV and I guess I have to spend some time at a couple of the local Home Theater retail stores before I commit.

i find its all down to the music, if you watch it without the music she is dreaming but as soon as you hear the music there is iirc a bell thats sounds like a death knell or the chord change implies doom! one or the other

after the ship has gone down and rose and jack are in the water, jack tells her that she is "going to die an old lady in a warm bed............". and so i've always thought that's exactly what happened at the end when they show her lying in the bed.

okay so I have the new Oppo 103 and watched Titanic tonight and had the sound drop out almost at the end. I searched the forum for audio problems and found the pop references at the start of the film. Didn't have that but did have the audio stop at about the 3:06 minute mark, just when the wrecked version transforms back into the whole ship and jack is on the staircase. I stopped the disc, restarted and went back to that scene and the audio played just fine. only did it once so I may go back and try again to see if it still plays. Anyone else have this happen? By the way, thought the disc looked amazing. Running with a Darblet from my 5507 to my 65" Panny plasma and boy did it look great.

How do you know for sure that what they used in the underwater footage at the titanic wreck was celluloid? I understand this was 97 but perhaps the scientific equipment on the subs at the time was digital. At any rate, the banding is only there for a some of the underwater wreck site footage.

I believe they used techniscope for the underwater footage. It was a rig made specially for the movie. Some of the interiors were shot on video where it was more cramped but that stuff looks pretty shoddy.
