Android AVSForum app notification

Thread Starter
AVSForum got recently updated to 1.3.11. The problem with this update is that it's set to notify you *every* time a new post shows up in a subscribed thread. There seem to be no way to disable this notification 'feature', and it's driving me crazy.

I need notifications turned on for email etc; OTOH I can just guess that there maybe new posts on AVS :-)

Even worse, each notification generates a separate AVS icon in the top bar... Help!

Hi,

I installed the upgrade today, and while I applaud the notifications feature it's too much. I don't believe there is a way of turning them off either.

Hopefully an update will soon be released to address this, until then I have no choice but to unsubscribe from any active forums.

Oops, I apparently missed your post and just complained about the same thing. The new AVS notifications are terribly annoying, I agree. Unfortunately the only workaround I've found is to unsubscribe from popular forums, which is a huge shame - it's one of the best features of the app.

Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Yes, I second the two posters above. It is hugely annoying (and I am not sure about the effect on battery life too).

I hope this issue is addressed soon.

I was just logging into the website here to ask how to disable these alerts, and I see a thread is already started.

I'm sure it's a nice feature for those who want it. I don't. It's super distracting when I'm at work, and should be customizable ... disable-able.

I'm on the verge of unsubscribing from my subscribed threads. Which will reduce my enjoyment of the site, and consequently reduce my visits.

Note to site admins: I visit the site via the android app every single day (on my smoke breaks). So yes, I see the adverts.

A couple days ago i updated the app and had this annoying problem. but i logged out of the app and then back in and the notifications have stopped. not sure why but you may want to try. i see another update notification appeared for the app yesterday but i have not updated to that one.

Screw this. Just got another alert that woke me up for no good reason (I work nights). I unsubscribed from everything. Let me know when it's fixed, thanks.

Love the site, btw...

Just want to add one more unhappy voice to the din. Please remove this feature or at least give us a way of turning it off. Otherwise the app works fine. Thank you.

Folks...

The Forum Runner bug report forum can be found here:

I'm confused. The Android AVSForum app is separate from ForumRunner. My forumrunner doesn't show avsforum as an option.

Currently running Avsforum 1.3.12 and notifications stopped but the app can't access the forum anymore. Either get a crash or other error message saying no forums visible.

How to fix it?

Thanks

Marc

The AVS app no longer works since AVS has moved to the new software last night.

Since that app will no longer work you can remove it from your device.

It is expected that later tody AVS will support TapaTalk which is an app much like the old AVS app. smile.gif

I use Tapatalk for several other forums, but I gotta say I sure am missing the AVS ForumRunner app. So far I'm not seeing new posts in bold with Tapatalk. Plus I can see no way to search within AVS.

FWIW I don't mind not having a separate icon /app for AVSForum, but I much prefer Forumrunner to Tapatalk. I use both but like the FR interface much better. Any chance the forum can support the ForumRunner format so we can use that instead of Tapatalk?

In tapatalk im not seeing new post counts etc..

FR apparently can't convert this platform while Tapatalk can. The new HTML5 version coming in beta in few weeks may trump them both though.

Also remember that ForumRunner is now owned by vBulletin. smile.gif

I'm ignorant on this... when the forum software change happened did it go from vbulletin brand (thus forumrunnef-friendly) to the rival brand that only supports tapatalk(if so, boo).

Im just glad I have a mobile solution again (thanks admits--you rock) but I could use some help/recommendations configuring tapatalk for the optimum avsforum experience.

Any suggestions from experienced users? Im mostly a forumrunner guy so I don't know the ins and outs of tapatalk.

Any chance Tapatalk will show quotes properly? Reading a post with quotes mixed with the new text is as bad as it gets, interface-wise. :-) Also jumping to the first unread post, as others have mentioned.

PS:
Actually, it seems that 'some' posts get proper quotes, indentation and all. However the vaste majority do not seem to. This msg shows the quote properly, and was sent from Tapatalk, fwiw.

My other issue is that for some reason notifications aren't available for private messages on this forum through tapatalk (my other forums in tapatalk are notification eligible just not avs ).

On my Android phone, pressing the phone's search button (hardware button) brings up the tapatalk search page. It doesn't have all the search options of the old AVS Android app though.

I sure hope the HTML5 mobile solution lives up to the promises, because I'm not liking tapatalk at all so far. Yuk.

TapaTalk was a "quick fix" if you will. It was really made for Vb and IPBoard as they are all over the place as they are cheep to buy and anyone can set one up for the most part. So they built for the numbers.

As such, Huddler does not have a lot of sites on the platform as it is not a mass produced product. So we had to find a way to make it "work" and as such items like PM's are not compatible. I am not even sure you can search.

So, yes, HTML5 is the direction Huddler has went. IE...If you use your phone of tablets browser and go to Amazon, you are then in an HTML5 platform. Same for like ESPN.COM. Sale site, same URL, but it goes into mobile mode if you will.

I have high hopes for it down the road.

You're right. I just got zero hits searching the display calibration forum for "gamma". Clearly is not functional.

Yeah, I'm seeing that too. I wonder it's a setting these posters are using that causes them to be quoted correctly.

Ask I can say is that this changeover is becoming more and more disappointing. I'm trying to be patient, but it's so not in my nature ... ;-)

Yeah, it's a learning curve. As mentioned, TapaTalk is more or less something we could quickly get going for at least some reading etc. But the real thing will the the HTML5 coding that is being done. No other community site is programming for mobile like we are that I am aware of. Meaning the site will work in a computer web browser if you are using one or will auto switch to the mobile code if you are browsing with a mobile device.

I'm probably doing something wrong, but my Android mobile device is not auto switching to mobile mode as you suggest. Android settings are set to do this...

It is NOT YET out as mentioned. It is coming.

Tapatalk has had trouble connecting for a day or three. Any idea what's up?
