Opinions on upgrading

I own a 2 Panasonic plasma, a G20 that is almost two years old, and a VT20 that I bough used that has about 4200 hours on it. I know both of my sets have black levels in the ballpark of .01 or above. I am not particularly happy with the blacks but I do love these sets, I've never viewed a true high-end television like a vt50, kuro, sharp elite, etc. Will I really benefit from upgrading, I'm happy with my sets until the lights turn off, then I can only see grey blacks, I can't enjoy a movie because of this, I could be crazy dunno. Opinions please!

Your not crazy
I've gone through 5 tv's/monitors in the last year looking for a display that does we'll in a dark room. If your not swearing off panasonics for good then I hear their 2012 u50 series measures around 0.01 candelas, that's about 3x lower than the original kuro and considering that the last gen kuros were 5x deeper than the the original kuros I'd say that's pretty good. It also only 800$+ tax where I'm at for the u50 which is a 50" 1080p display.

Replace only if your rich. Seriously the set is 2 years old. I am in the same boat and own the g25 and vt25. They both still look great to me. Would love to have a new VT50 replace the VT25 (that i love) but cannot jusitfy the $$$. The new VT50 sounds incredible, but it wont be the latest and greatest forever.

If you have money to burn, then knock yourself out a grab a vt50.. but you will be in the exact same boat a year or so from now.

Probably would be a waste at the moment, I will probably wait until Spring next year when the 65ST50 goes on sale and snatch one, I recently bought a new house and my viewing distance went from 9 feet to about 14, so that 50 inch is looking pretty small . It doesn't help my in-laws have two 60 inchers and I go over for dinner every week and come home to my "small" TVs.

Its funny how we now consider a 50 inch "small". I remember 15 years ago when my family saved and bought a brand new crt 32 inch Sony trinitron. It was massive. I remember how puny the old 24 inch looked in comparison.

One day will we be saying a 65 inch is way too small?

Its funny how things change over time.
