Calibration can make a huge difference. I dabble as a hobby, and did a quick, so-so calibration on my friends TV last month. He was very impressed, to say the least. As was I. He has a great set (Mitsubishi WD-73840).
The problem with copying someone else's settings is that there can be a large difference in settings between TVs, even two of the same model. Plus, room lighting and user preference play a role. The best you can do with copied settings is hope it improves your set, and doesn't make it look worse.
I highly recommend a professional calibration whether you're serious about home theater or just watch a lot of movies. If you're handy, you can also learn enough to do a pretty good job yourself, though there is a steep learning curve.
