Lucky!

I was able to procure atc-p50x1 from my brother for nothing. Only problem was the tinted screen played catch with his remote. It dropped it. Anyways, broken screen. Decided to replace with a piece of glass. Carefully disassembled the TV and finally made it to the broken piece of glass. Wasn't spending much so decided to replace it with a regular piece of window glass from the local glass co. $40 and some foam weather stripping and was good to go. Reassembled and now have a 50" plasma in my man town. Screen is considerably brighter with the loss of the tinted screen. Can't believe hire dark the tint was.

Excellent work! I knew once the panel glass was broken it was fixable but it has been reported here many times that the costs far outweighed the benefits of buying a new tv.

$40 is nothing!

He replaced the outer layer of protective glass, not the actual plasma panel that lies underneath it. That's a lot better than the panel getting broken

Correct. The plasma screen was undamaged. Just replaced outer piece of glass.
