Motorola/Comcast DCX3400 HDMI problems

Thread Starter
I've did searches and haven't found a lot of information.

I have a couple of questions on this Motorola DVR.

The main question is that it will revert to 720P resolution output for 16:9 sources and 480p for 4:3 sources.

I know this is a common problem. When connected directly to my LG 47LW5600 it does not change from my setting of 1080i for 16:9 sources and OFF for 4:3 sources.

When I had a Yamaha RX-A710, everytime the receiver was left on and the TV was turned off (DCX3400 left on all the time), the receiver would revert back to 720P for 16:9 and 480P for 4:3 sources.

That Yamaha also had some HDCP errors when using an analog composite conversion to HDMI. It sometimes gave HDCP errors. This along with the problem with the DCX3400, made me return it.

Now I know many have said the problem with this box is in it's HDMI output when used with HDMI switching, however I have never have problems when using with my newer Denon AVR-2312ci.

Now with the Denon AVR-2312ci, it doesn't revert most of the time. However when I'm doing some reconnections or messing with settings, I've noticed it reverts back to 720P (16:9) and 480p (4:3).

Also, here's a big deal that my wife noticed right away when using it with the Yamaha RX-A710 but it's also doing with the Denon AVR-2312ci. So obviously this is probably a problem again with the DCX3400.

The problem is that every once is a GREAT WHILE, the picture will black out for 1 or 2 seconds with the sound of the source still playing. I read some vague statements on this by 2 people with 1 having the exact same problem and the other, to vague to make out.

Now how common are these 2 problems?? Now this box has more problems related to the DVR portion of recording, but that's not as troublesome and these DVRs all seem to be quirky so I expect this. However the other 2 problems related to HDMI are bothersome and I'm sure it's an incompatibility with the DCX3400's HDMI switching as it doesn't do it with no switching.

Since the black out problem have shown up on both the Yamaha and Denon receiver, it can be traced back to the DCX3400. Even the resolution changes to mid-def resolution can be traced back to the DCX3400 and has been notated numerously all over the internet.

How common are these 2 issues with most people and has Motorola/Comcast ever come up with a fix???? I see complaints but never read of a solution.

Thanks a lot for the help.

With the 3 different Motorola STBs I have had I had them set to output all 16:9 aspect ratio content at 1080i and I have the 4:3 aspect ratio override set to output 480i to my 16:9 aspect ratio HDTV and I have never had any significant problems. About once a week I may get a video drop out from my cable company.
