Airplay to MBPro running Snow Leopard?

I see a download on macupdate.com for Airplayer, but don't know if this is a good idea. I want to mirror an iPhone or iPad on my TV thru the MBP, largely for showing photos. I've no use for an AppleTV except that, but do know it would work for this. I gather that AirPlay is not a part of Snow Leopard natively. Should I try the download, or go another way?
