Unable to play ipod on 2112ci

I connected the ipod to the usb on the front panel using the usual ipod cable.
Next, as per the manual: Press DOCK to switch the input
source to DOCK> Press SEARCH and hold it down for 2 seconds or
more to select the display mode.

I got it to play once but not able to after.

Note: The 2112 is not connected to a TV.

Con anyone confirm if this the latest firmware?

Thanks for your response. Yes, I was connecting the iPod using the USB jack and following instructions on pg.25. I finally figured it out.
I think there is an additional step missing from the instruction on pg. 25, which is, you need to press the iPod button located on the front panel. This enables the "Remote Mode" and displays iPod information on the iPod screen which is useful for quick access. I was able to play my iPod, iPhone (3GS) and Pandora through the iPhone.
