The two speakers sound very different. The Sierras, being a smallish two way, produces a very precise, almost holographic sound stage. I often picture it as a cut to size version of the original. It maybe a little bit like watching a show on HD TV - a lot of details but you always remember that it is scaled down to fit the screen. I think this is fairly typical for good conventional two way monitors.
By comparison, the soundstage that the SHOs throw is huge to the point of disbelieve because psychologically it is difficult to reconcile with 12' wide room. I am now used to this and totally addicted.
But at the same time some of that "air" around individual sound sources is not present, the sounds are not as distinct, not as refined. (it actually make some music sound better because everything seems more "together", but that's beyond the point i am trying to make).
I never felt that " things are slightly out of place in the soundstage" with the SHOs so I guess i was wrong to use the term "imaging" in my original post.Edited by zheka - 6/17/12 at 4:08pm
