I want to start off by letting everyone know how useful and much appreciated this site has been for me this far.

I am in the very early stages of producing a finished basement and I am looking to get some thoughts and suggestions on location of a HT area in the basement. I am also including a wet-bar area, gym, lounge, game room and a half bathroom(toilet and sink). Any suggestions on the entire layout or even suggestions on just a location and size of a HT. I am looking to accomadate 8 theatre seats in the HT area with a half wall at the back for 4 stool style seating. Attached is the floorplan, I hope its legible. Thanks..

We need locations of support poles, The mechanical area, the electrical panel, pre-plumbing, windows and any low hanging, beams, duct work or plumbing. Directional flow of the stairs.
If you want stand in the middle of the space and take a series of pictures of the entire basement. then post here.

While I'm trying to layout a plan, I'm going to begin insulating the floor and covering with 3/4" T&G. Does anyone know of a god IPAD app for creating a layout of the basement? Thanks...

good job on getting everything documented, Now open a free photobucket account, upload your pictures in their native resolution and copy the [img[ tag into the text of a post so that we can see them, even on my 24 inch monitor they are really hard to study.

So I found an app for the IPad that was user friendly to create a better layout of the basement. I would like to hear from the forum, your suggestions on location for the HT. As I mentioned in an earlier post, Im looking to accomodate a total of 8 theatre seats with half wall at the rear for stool seating. Also in the basement, I am including a gym area, poker room, wet bar and possibly a half bath. There will also be a utility room with the furnace and H2O heater in it. Thanks again for any and all suggestions. Here it is..

Getting a qoute this weekend to have either an egress window or stairway exit installed at the existing window location. Anyone have any idea what I may need to prepare for($$$)? Im located in Reading, PA. I would prefer to have the steps for ease of access during the build but would rarely use it after the basement is finished. The location is at the side of the house with very little usage. The egress window would be nice to provide some natural lighting. What to do??

you need to be aware that more than one AVS home theater has been flooded as a direct result of a stairway exit acting as a catch basin and filling up over the threshold. If you go that route you need to evaluate your storm water potential.

Are you talkin' to me?
I'm sure it will be a PIA to carry stuff in through the house, but it looks like you have plenty of room at the bottom of the stairs to get things down there. MY stairs end at the wall and make a 90 degree turn so getting things down the stairs is MAJOR PIA. Now, I HAVE a walkout which is really nice for hauling things in an out and letting the dog in and out when I'm trying to watch a movie, but when it rains HARD and HEAVY, not so much.

I would suggest keeping the window and NOT making a door.

Thanks Big & TLo. Made up my mind. I like the thought of having some natural light in anyway. Much appreciated.

Here's what I came up with so far. Still have to integrate a gym area in there. The theatre room will have a half wall in the rear. Please give any suggestions. Ive been watching the forums long enough and I know you guys know what your talking about. Thanks again..
