Really you just now realize that your not getting what you paid for? Not to sound rude, but where have you been the last few months?

If you have your PayPal account linked to your credit card, you may also consider contacting them if PayPal proves feckless. In the meantime, dash off an email to steve.switzer@iowa.gov and inform him that you've not received your subs.

I guess I got lucky and someone saw my post before it was taken down (sorry rboster). Picked up my third eD[c]12 over the weekend from forum member Frankie2075. got it home, hooked it up and sounded great. Loving it that I finally have three matching 12's up front. Sorry for the bad pic, I had to use the backwards option on my Razr to get them all in the shot.

nice. I still have three empty cabinets boxed up in my garage because fedex wouldnt pay for the damage.tongue.gif
two of them were damaged slighty, and one is perfect other than a small paint chip. Im debating on making xovers for them and installing drivers.

Yeah, I am stoked I actually found someone that only had one (not sure why he only ordered one though) that he was looking to get rid of. now I just have to get some high efficiency surrounds.

Those empty enlcosures sound like a good second system setup to me. I would imagine the hardest part is figuring out the xover...for me anyway. Lol

get the parts from PE and solder them together. Just go off the other xovers.

Now I understand why you bought it.

I hear really good things about JTR, but you will need some funds for speakers like that. Never heard of the other two companies...probably out of my price range. biggrin.gif

Smigro: Glad you got everything taken care of...

On a side note, I would recommend auditioning the JTR speakers. I have them in my set up (Triple 8's L/C/R) and 4 JBL's for surrounds...the JTR (I've found) are very revealing. It took sometime to get used to them vs the Paradigm Studio series that I had before. The paradigm were a warmer sound, but "hid" some of the details in the mid to upper ranges vs the JTR's (I had both for a couple of weeks before finding a buyer on the paradigms).

I'd recommend someone starting a "help your fellow AVS members thorugh speaker auditions"...there's one in the sub forum, where members open up their homes to audtions for their subs. I live in the Kansas City area and would be happy to audtion the JTR's for someone that is interested.

You mean maybe something like this???.......biggrin.gif

It would be great if this and the subwoofer one could be stickied since they are both a great resource that can get over-looked when they drop off the first page...maybe a cool moderator could make this happen....wink.gif

Very cool, I didn't know you were a KC guy. You should have come over to my place for our recent blind speaker shootout that included the same JTR's that you have (unless that kind of thing is frowned upon for a moderator). smile.gif What part of KC are you in?

I'm just south of the Plaza, near the Country Club Christian Church. Keep me in the loop. My 8th grader plays both Football and basketball (so with Saturday FB games and year round basketball tournaments...my weekends can be busy...but would love to meet some fellow KC HT hobbyist).

South of the plaza - nice. It would be a safe bet that you have a bit more to spend on this hobby than I do... smile.gifwink.gif I'm in Shawnee so not too far away. You've probably seen Archaea's sub shootout threads, he lives close to the stadiums.

Here was the thread (in case you missed it) and results of our recent speaker shootout at my place. The JTR's were my favorites for movies.

Can anyone that owns speakers with upgraded CD let me know it this is normal. In the pics below you will see the front left and right first and then the center with the upgraded CD. If you notice you can see a screen of some sort on the left and right, but not the same with the center. In the center I can see a screen back a bit more, but was not sure if this is correct.

front left and right with a visible screen (I guess cover for CD)

center that looks different from the the left and right.

Smigro, that's exactly how my 6" cinemas that I use for surrounds look. The basic CD is in my rear surround speakers and the upgraded CD is in the side surrounds that I recently bought used. Like you I wondered what the deal was but since they played fine I figured that's just how the difference between the 2 CD's is supposed to look.

Basic CD

Ugraded CD, this is how it looks normally with no flash.

With the flash on:

Glad to hear that Carp. Just wanted to make sure I was not going nuts. Like you mine does sound just fine also.

Nice lookin setup. I bet with all those high efficiency speakers your setup sounds real good. Sine I cannot get any eD 6's, I am probably going to use so e CHT SHO-10's as surronds. The SHO-10's have the same efficiency and I heard the same CD as the standard eD[c]12's so they should blend pretty good.
At our recent blind speaker comparison the SHO's sounded a lot like my eD's. I preferred the SHO's for music and it was real close on movies. However, I do use the MCACC equalizer on my receiver and I prefer my eD's manual eq setting to everything I heard that night. If I remember right, we had to turn down the eD's 2 or 3 db's to match the SHO 10's. The eD's were even 1 db louder than the JTR triple 8's, so I think their sensitivity is higher than eD states.

Yep, the SHO's should work great with your eD's.

Does anyone know if you wanted to change the horn tweeter out for an upgraded model what all would be involved? Would the crossover have to be changed? I know eD offered an upgraded tweeter option for $75 bucks. Does anyone know the model number of the upgraded horn on the Cinema 12s? Would it simply be a direct swap out?

Im almost positive you would need different xover parts.

On a side note, I still have three custom floorstanding cabinets for the edc12s in my storeroom boxed up. Two were partially damaged in shipping, but nothing major and one is in good shape.

Several months or more before they went belly up. there was some ED thread that mentioned the specific model of the upgraded tweeter. It might've been someone from the company but I seem to recall them saying it would require a crossover redesign and they hadn't worked on it yet. The thing is, with all we know about ED, you really can't tell what the full story is. My guess is that if they did anything, it likely would've just involved increasing or decreasing the padding to match the sensitivity with the woofer. Also, in either the same or a different thread they spoke about the new horn but I don't recall any mention of whose it was. Carp I believe has ED Cinema speakers and even picked up some on the used market to flesh out his system. I think the used speakers had the newer tweeter so consider PM'ing him and maybe he can give you some details. Maybe he'd even be up to taking a peek inside and reading off some model numbers.

The upgraded CD is the DE-250 from B&C. I don't think there was a different horn though and the crossover had to be changed. Anyone with a DCX could add their own digital crossovers after measuring if they have the drivers and want to upgrade the horn or something. I owned the eD cinema 12 with the DE-250 CD and the upgraded woofer to the 3012HO kappalite driver which had more midbass and higher sensitivity of 3 dBs. It was a very nice speaker and one of my top 5. The kits from Erich seems like the best bet for getting just as good as results for even cheaper.

I have the upgraded CD also. Im looking for pics I had of my xovers, but cant seem to find them.

The reason I ask is that I'm planning on buying carp`s old eD set since he has upgraded to Noesis. He did not have the upgraded tweeter and I think to my ears that`s the cinema12s weakness compared to better speakers I have demoed them against. I like the cinema12 set a lot for movies but on music, the tweeter can be a bit harsh.

Remember that most vocals and such are handled by the woofer, not the tweeter. What is the crossover? The tweeters usually cover very high frequencies and such. They do usually cross where our ears are most sensitive though. Find out what horn that is and if Erich can get a DNA-360 and crossover for it. See if that DNS-360 crossover will fit nicely and maybe just try it out with the existing crossover and maybe it sound better. I think the horn type was mentioned so search for eD cinema speakers. Maybe throw a seos 12 and DNA-360 with crossover with some cabinet alterations because I know erich probably has a crossover for that combo and eD's woofer. Just putting ideas out there. I wish you could hear my DR-250's in my room, I like them much better than my much upgraded eD speakers.

I agree -- at the blind meet the eD's had the most intelligible dialogue to me over the JTR, CHT, and DR250s --- thus I personally liked them a lot of music watching - one of my biggest complaints with my current Wharfedale speakers is that I sometimes have a hard time hearing what is said with lower dynamic levels. I'm hoping the eD's resolve that for me. They weren't my personal favorite speaker overall, they placed third behind the JTR and the CHT in my own blind evaluation scoresheet --- however -- carp is selling them to me at a good price, and I know the background of these speakers and have demoed them with enjoyable results in both carp's room and my own room. They'll hold me over until such a time that I decide to upgrade to a more amazing speaker like the JTR Noesis. The material I found harsh on the ED's was not voices, but things like the chain in the Lord of the Rings cave troll scene, or the hiss of cymbals in music, or the 'hiss' of poorly encoded MP3's. I was hoping an upgraded tweeter driver could be drop in -- but it sounds like if you have to change crossovers and I'm not sure I have the know how to do that yet. I'll look into it some and have some friends in KC who are learning more about it now too.

When you get ready to demo those DR250's and your theater room through a public invite meet I'd like to try to fly out to take part.

-- at any rate ---I like carp's eD cinema12's enough as is to have told carp long ago if he upgraded I'd like to buy his eD's ---- and that opportunity came along as he purchased the Noesis set. I was going to buy a set from another forum member, but they were about double the price including shipping (although they did have the upgraded tweeter ---but not having heard the upgraded model I have a hard time paying 2x's as much as what carp was selling his set for locally on a blind hope it would be 2x's as good).

Nezff -- are you selling your empty tower cabs? I'd possibly be interested in them for playing around with some of enrich's speaker and crossover designs.
