Intelligent Amp Assign automatically assigns amplifier channels to certain speakers, depending on what functions are selected. For example, in a 9.1-channel system, when Zone 2 is off, all 9.1 channels will be used in the Main Zone. However, when Zone 2 is on, power to the two surround back channels will be directed to the two speakers in Zone 2 and the Main Zone will receive 7.1 channels of power. Similarly, when CINEMA DSP HD3 is on, the two Rear Presence speakers will be powered and not the two surround back speakers. When CINEMA DSP HD3 is off, this situation is reversed. Thanks to Intelligent Amp Assign, there’s no need to switch the speaker cables on the rear of the receiver—one more way Yamaha makes your life a little easier.

This is getting silly.

The text you quoted does not say anything about the receiver having the ability to hear an HDMI source through the zone 2 speaker terminals or pre-outs. It does not describe a new feature in the RX-A3020.

The same exact text appears on the RX-A3010 product page.

Sorry, but I don't place a lot of credibility in some random poster on the Internet, especially someone who quoted a feature from last year's model and tried to pass it off as something new. Like I said before I'm going to remain skeptical until the manual becomes available or Yahama actually lists this as a feature on thier Web site.

Of course it would be a new feature. You cannot hear an independent HDMI source on the RX-A3010's zone 2 speaker terminals.

Seriously, you just need to be patient. According to Yamaha's press release announcing the RX-A3020 and the rest of the 2012 line of Aventage branded receivers, they should be all be available in stores this month. If you're correct and this year's models have this new feature then manual will confirm it. You don't need to make stuff up to try to prove it.

Ah, sorry, you're right, the press release said "starting in June" so I guess we'll have to wait until the full Aventage product line is rolled out.
