LOL

What I meant was scandalous.

I'd like to give a shout out to http://www.damnyouautocorrect.com/ at this moment.

With the previous software, when I'd click on the link in the e-mail, it would take me to that post or one close to it. Now it just goes to the first post in the thread. Is there a option for the old way?

Also is there a way to subscribe to a thread w/o posting in it?

Once you've visited/posted in those threads, your cookies and the links should correct themselves.

There's a subscribe icon at the top of every thread. smile.gif

Man, this is going to be a steep learning curve. My first reply failed. I don't know where it went. The iPad app stopped working with no warning and now I have to find out what the heck Tapatalk is. I imagine whatever it is, it's not going to look like the simple app that once was. This is depressing.mad.gif

Worked very well.
Now the Advanced Search doesn't show me the threads I've posted to.
I can search for posts that I've posted, and that shows me the posts I've made, but not the threads. There are a few threads that I'm curious about when someone posts something new to, that I have no way of finding now.
Also, again within Advanced Search, if I click on 'titles', it says:
No posts found for "title:(Search AVS Forum)"

Why couldn't the forum have been kept vB?
Now that I know a little more about the "Huddler platform" and how all the Huddler sites have a nearly identical look and feel, I realize what kept me away from signing up on other Huddler forums - the look and feel.

Like Bob I also searched by user name, and would take a quick glance down the list of threads. Threads with new posts were very easy to see, due to the bold/enlarged font. I could then click the little icon a the front of the thread title and go to the "first unread post".

I know we have a new software, but every other forum seems to have something similar, with vB being the easiest to use IMHO. I would think this software would have a similiar function, but it seems I am not the only one who can't find it.

If anyone comes up with a solution, comparable search, or work around, please post it here.

Ok, so I can't figure out another very useful tool.

I want to do an advanced search, and find all the threads that I posted in...with the newest one first.

Heck, is this related to the reverse order problem? Heck I can't even find threads that I posted in...

Any help ?

Top right corner, click on "New Posts" then "I've posted".

I don't mind the changes so much as the font. I'm finding this much harder to read. Please give us an option to change the font or tell me where I'm missing that option.
(EDIT) I changed it from the black background and that helps but I still really hate the font and I prefer using the dark background. Harder to read is not a good thing.

Thank you. That works.
You can also click on the right facing arrow at the left of the list to get to new posts since the last time you looked (aka "go to first new post").

I have to turn on javascript to get that to work, and I have to turn on javascript also for posting replies.

With the old software you could use this as your browser's favourites link:

hxxp://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/search.php?do=process&showposts=0&exactname=1&searchuser=BasementBob

and that would give you new results every time.

That simple URL was much faster than the 'new technique'. With today's AVS, I have to do a few extra clicks, and I have to enable javascript now to even see it.

Can't you just bookmark this now?

I agree. An option for changing the font would be nice.

I didn't find a way to change the font, but by using CTRL+ and setting the preference for only ten posts per page, I was able to make the posts easier to read.

Anyone missing stored PM's at all?
Using the BACK button from a post to go back to a search is a bit awkward, because of the 15 googleads.doubleclick links between the current page and the search page.

Up at the top right I clicked on "0 New Messages", and that took me to my old PMs.

Yeah I seem to be missing some....at least I thought I hadn't deleted it

I hate change for change sake alone. I didn't see anything missing on the old site. However, being a capitalist, I can understand why the owner made the change. The number of people who will leave will more than be made up by increased revenue. I just hope the numbers that leave won't degrade the value of this forum because of the decrease in input.

The main (and hopefully not a killer for me) missing feature is a date on the posts. Many times references are made to posts "about 2 weeks ago" or "about a month ago". I have never seen a forum, til now, with no date on each post. [Using Chrome on WIN7] All it shows me by each post is the date I last posted to the forum.

The only other similar forum I frequent is Howardforums.com Mainly has topics for cell phone carriers and cell phones. They lost some number of users when they changed over to a new, but still uncomplicated , format. The change here is much more user unfriendly than other forums. That won't affect the extremely knowledgeable people who frequent, here, but will definitely make it hard for newbies to figure out and try the patience of those, like me, who keep using MS Word 2003, because it works for me, but upgrade Nuance Speaking every 18 months.

What about a mobile site view?

I'm addicted to this place and constantly check it on my phone...but this new format is too slow on my Blackberry. The old mobile view worked great. Is there something like the old mobile view on this new interface?

It’s at full width by default here (not that I can open a preferences page to change it) but that screenshot is from an iPad, where it has a fixed width. There seems to have been no consideration for it in the redesign.

Edit: after having posted, the preferences did start working on my iPad (weird) the fixed width is even worse. Forces the page into that ⅓ content, ⅔ ads view all the time.

This is very reminiscent of the aborted attempt by Coke a number of years ago when they tried to gain market share by selling a Pepsi-like cola and calling it New Coke. Trash heap of history for that one. rolleyes.gif

BTW I like MS Word 2003 also. I shuddered when I saw what it has become when I saw it on a new PC. eek.gif Ouch.

Is there a way to bookmark the first new post in a thread?

That was the old way

With change comes the need to step out of the box to learn how to use the forum. Just like what had to be learned upon first coming here.

I like the change. Thanks for the improvement!

I do have one question: Does the site run into any issues if avatars are not "owned" by the poster? If this is so, I'll need to change mine back
to default. This isn't a problem, stupid questions are easier to handle than stupid mistakes.
So ... is there no longer any way to disable the display of user uploaded/linked images (gifs, jpgs) and/or attachments?

I'm learning my way. My initial reaction is "if it ain't broken....."
..."keep screwing with it until it is"?

I have to admit this was my initial reaction. But I have learned too much "good stuff" through the years on "The Forum" to leave now. I'm afraid I'm hooked for life.

How do I get to the listing of all prior attachments uploaded to the old site?

Did the address change for pdf files?
