It's different but I'm liking it. Has some pretty cool features. Easier to navigate once you get used to the change.

Impressive, it looks ready for a spin.

Top right corner, click on "New Posts" then "I've posted".

Hey thanks...I'd almost given up. Thanks for the response.

I am still struggling, but that part helped.

new look is god aful

So I've seen others ask before...but I am 1000% sure, there are "some" private messages missing. I sent a few back and forth before the move to the new platform and I know for sure they are GONE. I won't die, but just FYI!

+1 The new design feels weird and uninviting. They had a good thing going, why change it??? My iphone app is somewhere in the cloud, not working. Phew...

the previously viewed setting seems to be stuck at may 28 for me, even though i've visted the 'new' site several times.......

Is it possible to turn off private messages? There are options related to email notification of private messages, but I can't seem to find an option for disabling them entirely.

Mike, thanks. I'm one of the guys lamenting loss of reverse order, but this presentation does nearly what I used to do with reverse order and "favorites". In a couple of ways it's even better in that it gives a preview of the latest posts to the forums and allows me to easily bypass those that I know I've read. Very useful.

As a question though, how would I have discovered this if you hadn't posted it? Thanks again.

Apologies if this has been asked and answered already - I searched and didn't find it:

How can I disable the tooltips/popups when hovering over a thread? I hate that feature on forums. Here's what I'm talking about, in case the terminology I used is not what Huddler calls it:

Such a better design. It's much more clean and modern, and therefore more inviting to new users. Good job.

My only complaint is that the right hand sidebar is kind of intrusive, especially on the forum view page (when looking at the list of threads).
The design only looks decent on a high-res screen. At 1280x1024 or 1024x768 there's not a lot of useful content displayed at any one time, as noticed by iPad users.

In the vertical direction things like thread lists could be a lot more compact to reduce scrolling.

And the default Avatar is completely pointless. Anybody who wants an Avatar will upload their own. People who don't upload one obviously don't want one.

But all these points were raised before the new design went live, and they haven't been addressed yet and I'm not very hopeful they will.

I don't see how full my Private Message allocation is. With the old software, there was a % showing how close to full my Private Messages are. Now I just see the list of Privated Messages I have received.

It would be great if there was more room to store Private Messages.

All but one of my Received PMs are gone.

[quote name="COMPUTIAC" url="/t/1413919/quick-start-guide-to-the-new-platform/0_100#post_22102109"]Excellent job. Looks great ![/quote]

What is so great about it? Can't find the last page in any thread. Referrals must be retrained. Lots of wasted space and ads.

Downloading the thread into a text file was very useful to me. It was a very fast way of searching a key word/words when looking for particular info. Is that gone or am I overlooking it?

Correct, that's not an option at this time.

This is a confirmed issue that I've ticketed and we're looking into.  PMs unfortunately take a huge amount of time due to the complexity of their storage, and the lack of interrelated data between the source database and the imported database make it tough.  The occasional "empty PMs" thing is a mess, we use the vB parser for those and vB is simply returning some of them empty.

Long story short, it's a complex thing to import and may take some time to straighten out, but we're working on it.  We're focusing more on fixing the things that can be fixed quickly to begin with, though, and then we'll move on to the more time consuming tasks.  Sorry about that.

I like the change. Thanks for the improvement!
I do have one question: Does the site run into any issues if avatars are not "owned" by the poster? If this is so, I'll need to change mine back
to default. This isn't a problem, stupid questions are easier to handle than stupid mistakes.

As far as not owning the image you are using in your avatar, this is a slightly grey area. Across tons of sites this is very common practice to grab images from wherever as avatars, and as long as you aren't making money off of it, the worst thing that could possibly happen would be that you would be asked to take it down. But I honestly wouldn't worry too much about it.

1. Have image

2. Click the add image box (note this is in the editor, although VERY similar for BBCode)

3. Select Image and Submit

4. Image appears in post

That was fun and adventurous.

I've never heard of a site getting in trouble for the avatars.  I mean, this is certainly not my cat in mine.

Is there anyway to increase the size of the type that we see when we are entering a post. I know how to change the size of the type that appears when we actually submit the post, but can we make the type size bigger while we ae typing the post. I hope I have explained well enough so that members understand what I am asking.

Yep, I have a similar problem - the only one I really cared about it gone......

Could we please have the sticky threads fixed. How it is now we have no idea if theres a new post. It wastes a lot of time how it is now and is very frustrating.
So after really working hard to learn the new forum....my biggest issue is the SPEED. DANG, all those ADS that load on the right side of EVERY PAGE take forever...and I can't scroll fast anymore. Hopefully this gets addressed or personally I will have to look for another forum...SO SLOW!

Have you been taking lessons from Microsoft in how to annoy users and waste their time?

I am with you on this too as I also use my iPhone/iPad App almost exclusively for access to AVS. I recently renewed my annual AVS mmebership of $25 and would not have done so if I knew that the App would be disabled. I hope that AVS gets their act together in recreating the APP ASAP or they will loose a paying member.
