Quick Start Guide to the New Platform - Page 7

I'm not sure I'm clear on what you're asking.  A list of every attachment ever uploaded onto the site?  There isn't an existing, exhaustive list like that right now.  I believe that all old attachments should have been restored by this point - is something missing?

In the old site there was an area to Manage Attachments and it listed every attachment that you ever posted and also allowed you to delete them, and I think update them.

EDIT also any links to PDF files created in the old site seem now to be broken.

Also in the old site, all links opened in a new window (tab), even links to other threads in AVSF. Now links internal to AVSF open in the same tab. I preferred the always a new tab, because I usually want to return to the prior post.

If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel, pressing the middle button (wheel) should by default open links in new tabs. I use it all the time.

TiVo Community Forums is still using vBulletin and "Attachments" is under "User Control Panel" second image below is a screen print of how AVSF used to be, Is this available, if not please re-incorporate this feature and include prior attachments. The record of prior attachments is listed in the dropdown shown below when attaching a new file, but images does not have a prior listing, an all inclusive listing is what is desired.

Found the new forum first on Tapatalk, and have not even seen it on the PC yet...that'll be a little later.

Few problems so far. My account and forum subscriptions carried over.

One big annoyance is the double spacing between paragraphs (in SOME, but not all, messages using Tapatalk). The Adrian Monk in me wants to fix that!

My message has the double spacing, but the message from htwaits above does not. What did he do differently? I used ENTER on my smartphone keyboard as I always have.

On the web version now.

Still getting used to some of the quirks, but I expected worse. So far, it's not bad.

I'll continue to report any oddities, particularly if it doesn't keep track of subscribed messages and new message pointers.

Some new features - and some of the old stuff is gone or reconfigured. Probably ok in the end. Having some fun paying around with it and seeing where everything is. Nowhere near enough time with it yet to rate it as good or bad - but leaning in the direction of "we'll see".

how do i look at forums ive subscribed to? i found the posts ive subscrived to, but not the forums? thanks.

Why can't I disable the empty white space by the first few posts in each thread? How do I add a title to my posts?

Trying to figure out why some threads have a white background and some of a light blue background (obviously using the light theme)?

Threads you have posted in have a different table cell color.

Their is a THREADS tab...

For pete's sake! Will there ever be a way to turn off all the .png, .gif, .jpg 's that members upload? (Like the one above ^^^^ )

... And why did my thread on this subject disappear without any comment from the owners a/o coders.

Actaully, I found that this was only broken in the forum signatures. You can still use the IMG tag to attach pictures.

Perhaps you misunderstood, I want to see the html links ... not the picture ... I want the option *not* to be sent to some random website.

I want the choice to look at or not look at any images that are uploaded or linked ... the old vB forum software had a switch for that.

I tried Tapatalk HD on my iPad. I Appear to have wasted five bucks. It doesn't seem to know where the unread posts in a Thread start.

I am now using the Safari Browser on my iPad and I can find my subscribed threads with unread posts and read the new posts. However, this is not free of unnecessary pain.

After finishing reading new posts in a thread the browser is displaying the links at the bottom of the thread. There is no link down there that I can find to go back to the subscribed list. I have to go back to the top of the page and click on subscribed.

I will say it again. Looks like a refugee from Microsoft was in charge of interface desgn!

What happened to the iPhone app? I get a parsing error whenever I start the app now.

Also, I can't find the app in iTunes anymore.

Thanks for the report using Tapatalk. I am sorry to hear that it isn't better and you feel that you waisted $5 .

I was thinking about trying Tapatalk with my iPhone but will not do so now. I find that reading posts via my iPhone is a waist due to the small print. Unless AVS gets their act together soon with their own APP which is as good or better than their original iPhone/iPad APP, I feel that I have waisted $25 with my Annual membership contribution which I renewed in late May. It is really too badthat an APP was not established when AVS redid their entire Website.

I was using OPERA from my PC, not a smart phone. Maybe that makes a difference.

I'm stuck in the same boat too. I've worked very hard to make my Samsung Epic work as good as it does today, but having sites change so that programs just won't work anymore really can ruin your day. I was using their official Android program on the go when I had minimal bandwidth available, as viewing the site would be inefficient and slow. The program was downright buggy and weird all the time, but at least you could see your subscribed threads and post.

This is by no means a solution to the problem, but if you're running a smartphone of any kind and would like to have a good means of browsing AVSForum (or any website for that matter) on a fast connection (WiFi, fast EvDo, WiMAX, etc.), I'd recommend the latest versions of Opera Mobile; it's definitely the king of mobile browsers, handsdown, and could be an acceptable stopover until the low bandwidth official program is complete.

Keep us posted.

UPDATE: Just tried to browse the new site on Opera Mobile 12, and I have to say, it's actually not that bad and is infact less tedious than it was before, simply because it can be viewed zoomed all the way out without the need to "zoom in" to catch smaller buttons. While this was by no means an in depth trial, I will say that on the surface it is somewhat usable and loads quickly enough, and seems to run okay on the mobile platform (my Epic is powered by a single core 1Ghz HummingBird, so different devices' mileage may vary). I'm actually okay with using it this way, but I'm curious to see what the community has to say...

I get double spacing on other messages I'm pretty sure were typed on a PC. This one is on a PC, let me check.

Your message was one of the few that were not double spaced on Tapatalk.

I would assume David Bott and other interested parties have a great deal of respect for the AVS Community as he has nurtured it to where it is today and did not make the decision lightly, even though he knew it would ruffle some feathers.

He's apply demonstrated that for many years.

He obviously did not do it just to piss people off and disrespect them just for the hell of it.

Common sense applies.

Thanks. I didn't know that feature was there. It even had information for me for threads I've posted in going back to 2007!

That's incredibly useful to me. That's a real advantage to the new platform from my standpoint from a guy with a zillion posts here going back to *gulp* 2005.

I agree that's even better than under the old platform for me at least. A trip down memory lane as well.

If you browse through the regular forums, you will see things are normal: members are asking for and receiving technical help

Yes there is a learning curve to the new platform, and issues to resolve

I like the old forum of the blu-ray review page.
