Quick Start Guide to the New Platform - Page 9

This is probably has already been covered, but I've noticed two problems today. The emailed links to subscribed threads occasionally can't find the desired thread. I've probably had five or six this weekend. Among the links that do find the thread, many of them are pointing to the correct page but at the top of the thread instead at the first new post.

This may be the way it's intended to work, but the text color icon is great as long as you want blue. Of course the HTML can be altered to any color.

Over all the conversion seem to be going great. Thanks.

Try marking that thread as read to see if that fixes the marker.

After doing what Mike mentioned, as it may have been a thread you have not been to yet on the new site, if still having the issue, can you please forward a copy of the message to support @ avsforum.com so then we have the message and can check into it.

I am thinking it is the above, that you had not yet been to the thread on the new platform so it would no have been able to track your last point in that thread. We now can track your last read post on a thread by thread account vs it resetting even if you had not read the thread yet.

Thank you.

I've had trouble with the iPhone App. It seems to produce errors now instead of logging in.

The old app has been discontinued for a week. You want the Tapatalk app now.

If you guys would just stop using your phones for everything but a phone you wouldn't have the problem. wink.gif

I have reported the same. Mostly if you are not logged you wind up going to the forums home page. I just click on that first top link with the text of the tread. That seems to always work. The See Post & See Thread don't.

If you have this problem and are using a web browser hit command-0 for Mac and control-0 for Win.
All the browsers support this function.

Additionally, command +/- and contol +/- make the screen larger/smaller.

EDIT also any links to PDF files created in the old site seem now to be broken.
Example hyper-links to PDF attachments in this posting: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1241913/sa-cisco-8-series-dvrs-tips-and-tricks-using-coxs-passport-echo-software#post_18480844

That PDF seems to be working for me now.

It works for me too if that helps at all. I'm using Win 7 and Chrome usually.

Yes I manually edited the posting see last edit date.

The addresses of PDF files changed from  www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=180605&d=1279363429

to http://www.avsforum.com/attachments/12885

So any address to a PDF or doc file, linked as text, is now broken.

I think you're probably right. I've gone through almost all my subscribed threads and haven't seen the problem. I can't be sure it was the case yesterday. but today I'm sure that it's at least my second visit.

Try marking that thread as read to see if that fixes the marker.
If it happens again I'll do that and report any error messages to support.

The new interface is starting to win me over. However, there are a few minor annoyances that make the experience less than it could be.

I am using Safari on my iPad and the "rollover" links are a pain on that platform. I have to press the link rather than tap and the select whether I want to open, open in new page, etc.

It would also be helpful if the were a link to subscriptions at the end of a thread. Currently I have to return to the top of the page to tap on the subscriptions link.

I have probably learned more about Audio/Video in the last two years or so that I have been using AVS than I learned in the previous fifty years that I have been working with A/V.

THANKS to all the contributors, moderators and staff at AVS!

On mine, I see a suscribe button at the "bottom" of the thread...just FYI.

That's to subscribe to the thread you're in, not view your subscriptions like the link at he very top of the site.

Gotcha...there is a VERY EASY fix for that.

Simply COPY the Shortcut and either make a HOTKEY or a LINK in your favorites and depending on OS pin in to task bar, create a button, etc.....super easy!

Example...this is he URL and it will take you to your subscriptions as long as you are logged int (mine does at least)

Tapatalk is no longer bolding new unread threads, and you can only go to the last page when you press the thread title...not the first unread message (which is no longer being tracked)...

I found one annoying problem with the new site and I think it is related to ads. I am using Windows 7 64 bit with IE9. I am also using Norton Internet Security 2012. If I am reading a thread and I try to back out using the back button on my mouse nothing happens. If I right click the back arrow on the browser it shows one of two things.

1: http://static.ak.facebook.com/connect/xd.arbiter.php?version7 then followed by
https://s-static.ak.facebook.com/connect/xd.arbiter.php?version7
If I type this in my address bar it gives me a HTTP 403 Forbidden Error
I found an explaination of this problem:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10590850/how-to-avoid-links-to-http-static-ak-facebook-com-connect-xd-arbiter-php-hangi

2: httpgoogleads.g.doubleclick.net/page
I guess this has to do with the ads on the main page of the forum:
http://support.google.com/adsense/bin/static.py?hl=en&gl=US&client=ca-pub-4730054231376678&ts=1631343&page=ts.cs&adU=www.Fab.com&rd=3&contact=abg_afc&url=http:%2F%2Fwww.avsforum.com%2F&adT=ImageAd

Every time you click on a thread and read it then back up to the sub forum you are in you have to click dozens of times or right click the back arrow and select the link at the bottom of the drop down page to get back. This is very annoying and I hope you can fix this or stop this from happening.

After you've clicked the "thumbs up" designating a post as "helpful", is there any way to take that back?
Hmmm, I haven't played with that much but not that I'm aware of.

There is not.  Only mods and admins can make changes to thumbs/comments once they are submitted, but that's to handle cases of abuse as opposed to just taking back a point given.

That's not unique to this forum. I see the same behavior on Facebook using iPad Safari. It seems that when a link has an onMouseOver event handler, the first tap performs the mouseOver action instead of following the link. A second tap follows the link.

Yeah - me too. I've also noticed that the compaints don't occupy the most prominent threads anymore. I think a lot of us are just starting to settle down to the new format and figuring it out.

That's what I'm seeing too all around. I've been hanging out as well in this subforum trying to learn stuff and share my tips and help out and its getting better for me as well.
