First unread post is the start of a thread

Thread Starter
When I click on read first unread post it takes me to the start of the entire thread, even though I logged on yesterday morning. Is this because its a new site and it will self correct itself the next time I log in or will it do this every time? For example if I got to the hot off the press thread and click on new post it takes me to the start of the thread and it says there are over 73,000 unread posts.

I have to agree is there a way to be able to go to the first unread Post for every Thread?

This was working in the Sandbox.

It is working, but unfortunately, as you noticed, the unread post data wasn't migrated because the old AVS platform technology does not make that thread status (on a per user basis) readily available. In other words, threads will show in all posts as being unread until you've been on the site for some time, but you should notice the threads you've been to (like this one) jumping to first unread posts.

HI there! Check out this post that was made in the quick start guide thread. But you are right, because we did the refresh, the next time you login it should take you right to your first unread post.

In the old version there was a function in Thread Tools that allowed you to mark the entire forum as "read" with a single click... is there a similar function available here?

HI! Yes, it's at the top of the page under the forum title:

Thanks... Didn't see it because I almost 100% use the forum from the thread view on the My Subscriptions page and it doesn't appear there. At least I know where to go to find it when I need it.

Hopefully I won't need it as often with this platform. My main use of it was when unread posts got out of sync when switching between different computers, which was a constant PITA for me on the old platform.

I don't think we have that issue, so you should be all good.  Either way, it takes some time to learn where everything is.  smile.gif

It hasn't worked for me yet, and these are the threads I've been frequenting. Goes to first post on first page every time.

Hi...

Might I ask what you are clicking? I ask for in order to go to the first unread post, you click the icon to the left of the thread title with the little arrow. (If you look hard, it's an arrow.) No icon with arrow...no new posts.

499

Thanks.

Hi All-

With the old version I could bookmark a link and have it go to a new post by adding a "&goto=newpost" to the thread url. Is there any way to do that with this new forum?

Thanks,

-jamie

New format...
Code:
http://www.avsforum.com/forum/newestpost/1414629

Just adding the newestpost in their will do it.

All you really need is /forum/newestpost/number The number is the thread ID.

Here is an example for Hot Off The Press Thread. (Note, the first new post is from your last visit to that thread. So, if you have not been in that thread, you will more than likely go to post 1.)

For this thread for another example....

http://www.avsforum.com/forum/newestpost/1413944 <--- That is the ID for this thread.

I have had the same experience.

It seems not to be solely due to the non-migration of status from old system. It is not preserving all new status data either.
I used the new subscription update email yesterday (which sent me back to post #1 for each thread), scanned to the true last-read post of each thread and read to the end. But today I was sent back to the start of some of the very same threads.

Edit: Forgot to mention that this happens even for threads to which I have posted!
