David,

At the risk of beating this to death, any chance that the general post text body could be offered for the end user to change to the purple color? confused.gif

The purple is very easy on the eyes and easy to read IMHO not to mention unique! biggrin.gif

Yes you are beating it to death and it already has been dead. wink.gif As mentioned SEVERAL times, we will not be making a retro skin as skins as a pain to maintain. People using the BLACK skin already have noticed issues that need to be fixed as they carried over colors from the default skin when being created and missed being edited. Each time we may make a change that affects the appearance of the site, we then need to be sure to check each skin. It's a lit of work. Seeing that only 450 (or so as I forget the #) had the Retro skin ON it was a choice we needed to make. Even the Black skin only had 2500 or so but I required a dark one as people use the skins in their theaters. We are the only Huddler site they did this for that I am aware as it is very time consuming. But they understood the importance of a dark skin to the community.

All in all, their are TOOLS you can use with your browser to make a site LOOK like you want color wise. Feel free to make your own skin colors and once you start, you may see why. (And understand, you may be using point and click to change colors and save them...not sure as I do not use such a tool. But on this side of things, it is all hand programmed and even a lot of the images needed to be done to work on the dark vs default color. You may have seen some great right here in this very thread.... http://www.avsforum.com/t/1413952/really-miss-the-retro-skin#post_22115279 Maybe ask that member for help in how he does it. Also ask how long it takes to get it to where he likes it. Could be 10 mins for all I know. Could be he is still trying to get one he likes. wink.gif

I really think I am done saying this now. wink.gif I really hope this helps.

Any way to make this required viewing before new members can post?

It is not our so I would love to make a contest to let some of our talented members make something like this or a mini movie (seeing we are AVS). It could be a hoot!

But is not not just great?!? smile.gif Been around for years! Love that thing. The "You dumb ass" line is just classic!

It's great because it's so accurate eek.gif I really laughed at a couple of the quick bits that were put on screens right before the change to a new topic.

Someone here (with a lot more artistic ability than I'll ever have) ought to create one for the site.

I was able to use the "Change Colors" Extension on Google Chrome and on the fly it allowed me to switch to purple or yellow text colors on the AVS Black Skin. There were other extensions there as well that did similar things.

Suggestions?
As I mentioned on another thread, check out the skins on Stevehoffman.tv forum. They have one called blu-bayou that rules. I'm not suggesting you copy them, just get some ideas. Or use the ones you had from the old forum?
As far as the one alternative skin you have right now, why not change the color of the white text to something like: CFCFCF I am running a Chrome extension that allows me to change page colors. I use it on AVS now. The grey text, that I have set it to, is so much easier on the eyes.
Another thing too is typing messages here is done in a white box, even with the black skin. Would be nice to have a different shade for that as well...Maybe black with CFCFCF (grey) text or even just a slight grey shade with black text.
Example: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
375
Just ignore the light blue text, which I had set...Although it doesn't look bad.

What chrome extension are you using?

Change Colors...But it's annoying to have to use it.

Let me share one...
I kept this from Way Back long ago....Hold on to your hats.
(Note, at the end you will get the error page as the file is not their when it tries to go to the original Ultimate BB system.)

Thanks, had to go out swinging you know......

Ha, those two links you provided were funny.  Time flies, and it is always fun to look back at how things were.

I'll mull some ideas around for a another video, would be down the road though.

LOL All change is annoying. But that at least makes it customiziable for your needs.

Just pretend that AVS is your old girlfriend that just got a great plastic surgery makeover to look better but she's still recovering from the surgery.

But remember the change was probably needed just for support purposes anyway and better infrastructure and potential for growth. So its better to get the changes out now than heaven's forbid have the site go down because the old software was getting creaky or that it was easier to attack by vandals or targeted because of its prominence.

Its probably on a much more stable back end now with a lot more support resources as well. Plus if the new ads and whatchamacallits and doodads add in some revenue to the site then it surviving into the future is greatly enhanced.

Can we have this AD stuff on the right removed (put up at the top/bottom) so that we have the full width of our browsers please?smile.gif

Like with the old forum, if you're an AVS Club Member you can turn off/hide the ads which will remove them from the right column, but with this new platform there is now a "Currently Viewing" list embedded in that right column so hiding the ads still leaves the right column there and squishes the thread titles into the left 2/3rds of the screen. With the previous platform, removing the ads freed up the thread titles to extend all the way to the right of the screen, but not so with this new platform currently. This is being looked into so that's good - here's a related thread about it:

Well it's been about a week since Retro blue was yanked from the core of my being, but ya know, i'm finding myself kinda digging the new Black skin as the days go by. It sounds weird but it feels more "home theater like', probably because some of my A/V setup is black with silver gray and it sorta ties the forum to my gear now.

This new forum is kinda exciting and i'm not having much trouble using it, and the content and discussions seems like business as usual in the forums i read.

I used the old AVS dark black format on the old site but I have to say that I agree that the new AVS Black skin here seems to have a bit more pop on the forum pages and I'm getting used to the interface now its not that confusing either.

Maybe its the silver and grey highlights or the rendering but I agree its starting to grow on me as well.

I moved from AVS retro years ago so my brain spasms were not as harsh as I had been using black as home theater theme for many years now.

honestly, as someone who has extensive knowledge of forum building, databases, coding, etc, they are quite full of **** David.

I find it hard to believe that you as a forum owner dont know this. It is remarkably easy to manipulate the color palate if their ****** software is coded in any reasonable manner. I cant imagine they have to hard code color palate changes vs a simple database/template/plate swap.

Of those 450 people using retro and 2500 using the black theme, i wonder what percentage of your site traffic they accounted for? I wonder what percentage of AVS purchase they accounted for (my guess is the majority of both).

I actually could stand the change until the BS from these people and your admins started flowing. There is no sugar coating it, although the site is functional, their software is ****. period.

I'm another one that will miss the retro skin. Over the years I tried others but I couldn't stand using them. The retro was easiest on my eyes. Of course once you have no choice you have to get used to something else.
Just my opinion but I think the default white skin needs to be replaced by another black or dark oriented skin...And it has nothing to do with my needs or my eyes. It has everything to do with people associating this Huddler forum change with The Home Theater Forum. I really think a non white default skin will really set this forum apart from the mess that HTF became. The more I poke around here, the more I'm not minding the change as much. But if it wasn't for the black skin here (which still isn't tweaked right) I would be gone in a heartbeat, never to return.

On a more personal note, I just don't understand the appeal of white. Not only are people going to have pre-mature cataracts by all these white screens (especially with the advent of these extremely bright LCD monitors), it just doesn't set the forum apart from most other sites.

When i first saw that they were going to be doing away with Retro i switched to Black so as not to shock my brain when the big switchover occurred, but i found myself switching back to Retro a lot and pretending that it's not going away biggrin.gif

Retro made AVS very unique, but now this new platform is somewhat cold and uninviting and actually uncomfortable - kinda like getting yanked from your home and thrust into a big corporate nursing home. The big saving grace though is that it's the membership and content are what makes a forum great so once we all get used to the new platform it will be business as usual. Nothing lasts forever, but it was a good run wink.gif

Well I took a 3 month hiatus from AVS (gasp!) and am totaly lost.... no CP (Conrol Panel page), and this new GUI intreface/skin is horrible, poor look and feel to it, asceptic as the walls of a hospital frown.gif what a shame

I guess I need to find the FAQ onb how to reset everything to resemble how it was but have to say, after 9 years of happyness this is a real bummer and a strange place to be in. frown.gif

For those that have Firefox or Chrome there are some style sets here that can help you get the Retro skin look back

I'm using some mods to the AVS Dark skin that help me with the site now from that thread. Its pretty easy to add the Stylish extension to Chrome and do that stuff.

wow I havent been here in a while I guess and now this old skin is gone!

I am sorta not liking this new dark one

the retro skin was the best I really love it please being it back

it cant be that hard to do, it was done before what has changed that needed to be changed, the old forums worked great what was wrong that needed to be changed that caused this skin to have to be removed and be to hard to be added again?

Besides the Stylish option mentioned above, I may have another trick up my sleeve. More info in the coming weeks.

Here's how to get the old retro skin back, coordinated with the Huddler changes.
