Oddness! I've used it 4 or 5 times today already. Sorry to hear. frown.gif

The only place we have a a "reason" field is for moderators who can enter their reason for deleting a post, so other mods can reference it.  If you edit your own post and you want to type in a reason, you can just do that in the post body itself.

Performance on the iPad and mobile devices will probably not be up to par until we roll out the mobile site, which should work much better.  That's our #1 priority in development right now.

But, by that logic, then couldn't the mods type it in the body too? It just looks better the other way.

Oh well, maybe enough desenters will cry out and the issue will surface again in the future. ^_^

Well, still trying to get used to the new look. It's not too bad but please bring back the yesterday and today indicators for the posted replies. Using the number of hours and such is just plain bad. Can't tell where I left off reading.

Hi,

With the old forum I have 10 shortcuts that IE will open in tabs.

These are opening the proper thread but I am always at the first page.

Yes I can click on # Unread Posts but that is an additional step.

Is there a way to start with the first unread post now?

VERY true. And Audiogon still sucks, MUCH MUCH slower than it used to be.

What was broken on AVS that needed to be "changed" since it sure has not been improved/ Avatars gone, response it slow; can't find out how to edit one of my previous posts; blah, blah, blah

Yes, but they generally like to keep that information private on most sites, so they have functionality that others do not.  smile.gif

Audioguy, the edit button is the pencil icon at the bottom of every post.

Yes, actually!

Just take any thread URL to start. They look like this:
http://www.avsforum.com/t/1413954/absolutely-awful/60

Modify it slightly by removing the /t and adding /forum/newestpost in its place:
http://www.avsforum.com/forum/newestpost/1413954/absolutely-awful/60

This will redirect you to the thread page and take you to YOUR FIRST UNREAD POST. Not actually the "newest post" - bad naming on our part. BTW the redirect will actually bounce you to the thread's true URL so you won't be able to bookmark it after you land. You'll need to take the modified URL as I showed you above and save it directly in a bookmark. Just click on the second link here to see what I mean.

Hi,

Thanks, I will try that.

EDIT: It worked

With the new format of immediate notifications I will be removing some as they get so few posts.

Lets poorly reinvent the wheel yet again and claim it to be superior. Have you ever even heard or Zeitgeist?

The Huddler platform is why HTF has dropped way down on my list of go-to sites, and now it looks like they've got their hooks into AVS.

What a sad, depressing, development this is
post #73 of 115
I'm not liking it either it is very annoying to have the context sensitive nags while scrolling. How can I make the new site work more like the old?
This is truly a horrible horrible horrible change. The old site was so much better. I can't stand the annoying popups all over the place and the home page is so busy it is annoying. After loving this place since 2000, I'm sad to say that this site is now annoying to me.mad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gif

Too many useless doodads. Too much clutter. Navigation is a disaster.

And is there a way to get rid of the HUGE dark grey box at the bottom of every-friggin-page? I do not use or need that.

I must agree. IMO, the new format is *not* an improvement.

Totally agree, with the exception of the slowness criticism. Way to go, AVS, for screwing up a good thing and replacing it with an awkward, confusing set-up. The home page layout is telling: a quick-start guide wasn't necessary for the old site.

Hi,

Can you be more specific, I.E. post a link like you are trying.

In the "immediate" e-mail I got for your post there are two boxes, "See Thread" and "See this post'.

The "See this post" has:

http://email.avsforum.com/wf/click?upn=IteB9nQX1tzxZNqDHRtZpl0Fm-2Bvxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx52h5IGd35iA1Y7GVNQuMwE-2BIftt-2FXNd4n-2BPgB0oty3wROupdy5wEOLIK7rSMLLi1eMIiA5LhMULry-2F9heE-2BkgdPo0S-2FcBc8Aq2mhK9oeyvKGIRjmvwM4-2BG-2BEqF2YW2Zt6jFzRWIJ4QpS4r65Q9qa7494YocnBc-2B5yqy1VHF0-2FCPV1ku54YG6uHBtKARnubGa8S4VlcW7eU4uDSvdPx-2Far_833IhK56bBi8plrdvGabnZ0r-2BDur-2BvTxEHxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx10AWH18Bmqk-2FCxt1PEbiAGzMu8Od5COBxaLkZFTJox9SJ7cgVLuQvj-2FpC-2BGVVrRVjka3nf462NZuFoU4KJIrmXs3-2BsgjKDu-2Bculj19e4Bq20gWqP7powrSb2ybYRAUPAJOu8QX4G-2Fxxxxxxxxxxx-2BgrWNSko8-2Bv39k7Y02u7r-2F-2FdcaMfoLppc1TjoXU-2B7ZSqXiNEB3B85VnPFYp

That takes me to your new post. (And logs me in perhaps so I have changed it so do not try it, it will not do anything good.)

I have changed all my IE shortcuts and when I click on "Open in Tabs" I get ten+ tabs just like the Administrator said. (12 Posts. Joined 6/2010, he must have been slumming)

When you receive an e-mail for a thread you are subscribed to. The top link takes you to the latest page (not the last post you read). If you scroll down there are 2 more links one of which takes you to the thread (never tried it so don't know exactly where) and the other takes you to the last post you read. The top link in the e-mail should take you to the last post you read, it is such a waste of time to scroll to the bottom of the e-mail to find the link to the last post you read.

It's very odd, ever since the forum been change, I've been visiting less frequent between here and AudioGon, I'll be kicking the habit in no time..It's not that I don't like the new thread, it's just so new with an unfamiliar feel to it. Hmm, I guess we're mostly creatures of habit.

Hope I get over the feeling fast.

Yeah what's that all about, looks like My Space, remember that wink.gif...I don't know I guess you either have to have been born around 1980's or have to have a little A.D.D to keep up with everything popping up in front of rolleyes.gif Yeah I'm old.. cool.gif

Hi,

It's the war between bottom posting and top posting, a different type of skirmish.

I top post almost always in my e-mail lists and usenet. And get flamed often.

This forum and another one like it I do bottom, middle and top posting, whatever seems best.

I have no problem with the format of the "immediate" e-mail's with the boxes at the bottom mainly because that is where my eyes end up after reading what was posted. (I need a reason to go to AVS right then, mainly because I wish to reply to a post.)

Wanting to go to the first page also for me is unusual but it does happen, some thread starters update the first post often.

Click on the "AVS" logo at the top and you go to an AVS first page that I will be rarely visiting, that is unless I get total control of it's format. That will never happen as companies are paying money to get their equipment shown there. I have no need to look for new equipment as what ATSC tuners I can buy is controlled by my great scheduling program.

The bold title of the thread at the top just below the line also takes me to the first unread post.

It may be that due to your post they changed it, I had not tried it before.

We are on the steep learning curve so be patient as you learn how to use the new AVS.

And watch for changes as even the "Administrator" is reading "Absolutely Awful".

OK. I've given it several days and I really have to agree.

I go to the forum to address questions regarding my television stations. I do a daily search in the Locals forum and I want the most recent. Piece of cake in the old platform and absolutely a pain in the ass now.

I'm not one to complain and perhaps I'm missing something but right now I'm not impressed.

Huddler was never designed for the user, it was focused around the administrator. Admins forget, they wouldn't have a forum ifit weren't for the users. A very costly mistake unfortunately.
After browsing thru the new site, it is definitely slower in performance. Even after turning off the ads and getting rid of the right column or anything that I can remove.

You seem bitter.

I'm sure the decision was not made lightly and that a lot of factors were considered that you would probably discount.

I hardly think that the long term health of the community and the experience for the members here at AVS was not considered.

seems like volume of posting is down. may be a reflection of difficulty using new interface.
