C&P & browser spell check & other issues

Thread Starter

1. The C&P Windows function doesn't work without a separate pop up box appearing telling you to paste there. A message about my "browser settings" was displayed. I run Opera and only updated Java to V7 update4 (I was running V6 update21). What's up with this? The C&P was a URL from within the forum. Could this be something to do with Java??

2. My browsers built in spell check doesn't work. When I right click a misspelled word the only option is "Paste" through the forum. If fact the only right click option in the body of the message is paste. What's up with this? Yes, I'm aware of your spell check, but it is slower than what is built in the browser.

3. Next, I can't copy or cut text, l'm getting the same 'security' message.

4. Attachments are only one at a time.

5. You can't re-edit the title like you could before up to a certain numbers of days after your original post.

6.  No cancel button when editing a post. I have to click 'back' three times to return to the thread.

This makes trying to compose a simple post, close to impossible. mad.gif

In the Rich Text editor, browser spellchecks don't operate the same way.  When a word is underlined in red here, you can ctrl+right click to get the spell check menu.

I don't have Opera, so I can't speak specifically for that browser.

I was using "Rich text Editor". I now switched back to BB Code editor, but see no difference.

Sorry, I misspoke - the spell check is in the ctrl+right click menu on both. I never use the BBCode editor so I'm not quite as familiar with it, sorry about that. smile.gif

Consider yourself lucky. I find myself having to press the "Back" button dozens of times. Windows XP Professional and IE8.
This Huddler stuff doesn't seem to be a mature product, unfortunately.

Is this not showing up for you?

That's the attachment icon in BBCode. It is kinda easy to miss due to the color scheme, it looks like, but it's there.

You can edit the threat title here, as the OP.

Ah yes.. I see it does... upon third look. But it only appears AFTER hitting "PREVIEW" and WAITING 30 SECONDS for the preview to appear. My internet connection here at my office is very fast, I don't know why it should take sooooo long to cancel a post. And still, my back button appears to be pretty much useless on every page . . .

You don't have to preview a post in order to do anything. In the quick reply, you just click "clear the editor" if you decide against a post. When editing a post, the cancel link is there without previewing, as well. I'm not previewing the post I posted a screenshot of, that's just after clicking the edit icon.

The initial speed issues are due to the new site not being cached yet, and other processes running, like thumbnailing all the images and indexing the site for the Search functionality. That will improve over the next day or two.

Ok, I found the cancel button. I didn't have my 100x power microscope near me. mad.gif

Regarding spell check, sometimes (as in posted this) it works as it use to, other times it doesn't. confused.gif

The Cancel link is purposely put on the other side, and not in a button, because too many users were accidentally nuking their posts after taking the time to write a lengthy one out.  It should be fine now that you know where it is.

You see the attachment icon and where to edit the thread title, as well?  Having a new forum means that things will take some getting used to, and it takes awhile to figure out where everything is, now.  Thanks for your patience smile.gif

Ok, I see what's happening. If I'm on a post near the top of the page and I hit "Reply", it brings me down to the bottom of the page to the "Quick Editor". Then I type a few characters and press "Clear". That does in fact clear the editor. It also leaves me at the bottom of the page in the Editor, and I will remain there until I realize what's happening (or what's not happening) at which point I am expected to scroll back up and attempt to find the post I was originally reading when I hit "Reply". rolleyes.gif
I guess that's one way of doing things . . .

thanks for the "edit thread' tip,

attachments & spell check are major problems!

Ok, I can't browser spell check my OP, but I can do so in this response and my previous response. WTF?

Not sure what you mean. I just did some testing and was able to have the exact same spell check functionality creating threads as replying to them in both the Rich Text Editor, as well as the BBCode Editor. If you are unable to use spell check while starting a thread on the OP, can you please attach a screenshot and we will figure out what is going on. Thanks!

Also just to make sure, you can embed images into posts as well as attach them, up to you.
