Being able to resume playback and view closed captions is a nice addition to the unit's feature set.
But, going into Mute automatically puts it into CC mode. What happens if you want to mute the audio, but don't want CC?? Of course the audio controls only work for the HDMI audio.
The only weird thing is the PQ is noticeable worse than my regular DVR.
The real bottom line deal killer AFAIC, is this false contouring which is not always evident, but when it is, it is terrible. The default contrast & brightness settings can be worked around, this banding (another name) can not.
I wonder if this means I will have to scroll all channels occasionally, or this is a one time requirement.
I tested again, coming out of standby, if you enter the Guide without scrolling to any other channel, the only channel that will have listings is the one you were on if you set this misnamed "EPG Tuning Mode" to off.
Set to the default 'on' there is no problem, but you are back to the four second update for each station.
My take is; the tuner has to register with the Guide for every station (channel) so the Guide to know the channel is available. If you notice, when you do scroll up or down on any channel that the tuner hasn't tuned since you powered it up, there is no reaction to the channel from one channel to another. Almost as the Guide doesn't know you are changing channels. I wonder if fixing that other problem of a 'hanging' Guide when you stop on a vacant channel (loss of reception for any reason) that use to lock the Guide?
Scan through every station first, then access the Guide, there is no problem. Not really practical. Edited by videobruce - 12/9/12 at 9:37pm
