I am a long time lurker but in need of some advice.
I've been looking at playing movies from an external HDD and my mind was set on getting the AIOS PIVOS but after reading some dreadful reviews, i wanted to make sure i got the best player for the money. My needs are as follows:
- Willing to spend $120 but i would be much more comfortable spending under $100
- DTS-HD playback
- DTS-MA playback
- Read MKVs, VC-1, WMV, MP4s for the most part
- Doesn't have to have a network port but it would be convenient.
- Playback subtitles
- Easy to use
- USB/ESATA port for external hdd
The PIVOS seemed to be a good unit until i read how slow it can be, and the remote being very complicated to use and the GUI itself. It's for the girl and her room mate, so i don't mind showing her how to use it but simplicity is what i am after. From there i see there is the Micca MPLAY-HD which goes for $60 but i don't know if it supports DTS-HD/MA, Micca 600 and 950 (950 being out of budget) but both aren't on adorama or amazon.
