Sweeeet! Still waiting to see what the XS offers over the DS. Seems pretty responsive too, you didn't go to Xtreams and speed up the video 3x to make it seem faster than it is did you? tongue.gif Hate to jump on this now and be disappointed later but definitely getting one or the other.

When plex runs on the XIOS-DS is shows gives the same UI interface as the mobile or tablet app correct? So it's not the same as the roku or Mac versions?

Was the overscan/underscan issue resolved for media playback?

Looking for something that can run run both XBMC and Plex well. Originally was waiting for an ATV3 JB,

Thanks.

- The Plex client interface is similar to the one from any ICS device (so mobile/tablet app).

- overscan/underscan issue is still there but you wont be affected unless your TV can't display in "native" mode.

Does Plex run on the XIO-DS?

I suspect it would since it's running Android.

Have you checked the video above ?
The client module sure runs super fine on the XIOS DS and on most of my android devices.
The APK is downloadable from the Google Play store.

Nope, didn't look at the video...just saw his post and figured it must since it's running Android. smile.gif

Just because it runs on Android does not mean it will look right on a TV. Plex on a GTV is very nice but it is very different from Plex on Android, even though GTV is running Android.

it runs fine with Android (ICS), its formatted properly for big screen TV, I have already tested it on the XIOS, so if you have specific question about the setup feel free to let me know.

The new Sony was $190 from the Sony store when I ordered it (different model?). It has access to premium content but is constrained. I don't quite get Google's approach here. If Android 4 can scale to HDTV's and give you access to all the apps what is the point of Google TV? On the other hand, not all Android apps play well with the input methods associated with a TV box.

I see your point about the price issue for a constrained box. I guess we will just have to see. If the $100 boxes perform just s well as a GTV box then that's the end of GTV. There's got to be a catch somewhere. In any case it does seem like an interesting player. Not a powerhouse but those players have a questionable future in my opinion.

The catch is the brand Sony/Google. I'm pretty sure it will die out just like Google TV did, and the other inexpensive players will take over specially with XBMC.

Kind of in the same boat - I have an ATV3 but I'm getting annoyed that the jailbreak still hasn't come out yet. This Xios box looks very interesting, but the one thing I would really miss is Airplay. I don't suppose there's some kind of Airplay server for Android?

Looks like it's in the works as well.

I don't think that's what I want at all, because it sounds like it's a completely different protocol that basically does what Airplay does - which wouldn't allow me to make use of my iPhone 4S with the Xios box.

Well it remains to be seen how well XBMC works on these underpowered players. In addition XBMC may take years to work properly. They didn't announce any kind of timeframe. In addition there is the question of access to premium content. I hardly think content providers will allow access to their content unless there are real constraints on the boxes. Look at what happened to Boxee.

I actually really liked the Logitech Revue when I had it. I don't know much about Pivos. Tried to find out what came with their Xios-DS but it is well hidden on their sight. It all sounds like promises at this point.

I do hope GTV doesn't fade away. There will be a $100 box from Vizio so that might help. It would be nice if they used the latest Android OS though.

Premium content is not important to me. I want XBMC to work properly in order to have a good looking and well working UI. I don't care about Netflix (should be named oldflix) Hulu don't care about either. If I want to access Hulu or Vudu, I use my Xbox or PS3. If they were to add premium content, these boxes will not be inexpensive anymore due to licensing fee.

I do hope that Android + XBMC works in the near future. It is nice to have options rather than going back to Dune and PCH:D

Well for people for whom Netflix or other streaming sites are not important then the issues are different. That is a minority of folks I suspect. I agree that having XBMC working on such a device would be great. I also feel that having to return to PCH in my case is not as appealing as it once was ( though I really like OverSight). Dune may work but their price increases were crazy and they have just priced themselves out of an already small market. Moreover, I prefer the GUI options for PCH over those for Dune but in any case they both come up short in that respect compared with XBMC.

My little XBMC shuttle was inexpensive, works great and is far more powerful than the Xios ( which is still future ware). It is also silent ( no fan).

I quite enjoy Netflix. Mind you, I am old so ...

What do you mean ? the apps ? it comes with a fully functional google play + side loading.
Its not hidden, the apps that comes out of the box (though meaningless if you ask me as the box isn't constrained) are all listed on the product web page.

How inexpensive is "inexpensive" ?, I need at a minimum of $250 to setup a net-top for HTPC usage, nothing near the $95 that the XIOS is selling for here (before Pivos adds any MIR on top of that), I think a sweet point for any non HTPC solutions would be between $150~$175.

Two reasons why I don't like XIOS. One it doesn't play HD sound, and most importantly it doesn't play ISO files. I am hoping with the addition of XBMC it will be able to at least play DVD ISO fiels, which all of my TV Shows are DVD ISO format. The HD sound I may be able to live without.

Yep! I, too, am spoiled by HD audio and iso capability . I can NOT live without either of them, including Blu-ray ISO..

I too could sacrifice HD audio but at this point it doesn't even bitstream DD/DTS, it only downmixes to stereo. I think thats something they'll need to address quickly, even with XBMC I don't see many people being happy with stereo sound.

I dont relly get the hipe on the XIOS (without xbmc) every (almost) other box are playing .iso and this one not? Why would someone get this box now rather and the other mediaplayer? Is there absolutly not way to load iso in android?

Might want to check my review at the start of the thread, its all about the user experience, non-android similarly priced players can't even get to scratch the surface of what these android boxes can do. You can't get them all, but you aren't paying that much either in comparison, and it beats docking/undocking your tablet whenever you want android on your big screen TV.

The the XIOS isn't a media player then. It just a tablet in a box?

I am very happy with 2:1 sound from my Cinemate. In fact, I don't care for sound coming from behind me. I'd rather it all come from in front, even with a higher end audio system. Sound can bounce off walls and so on.

@assoror

Where are the specs? Such as the type of remote that ships with the unit, fan, memory and so on ...

I see nowhere where they state that XBMC will ship with hardware acceleration on the current unit. In other words I am saying there is almost no firm information about it.

I have a feeling you're in the minority. Going back to stereo for movies is like going back in time a decade. Some people won't mind but for niche players like these I think most likely will...could be wrong.
