Silent stream bug -- Intel i5 (Clarksdale)

I thought this was just normal behavior, but after some research I believe I'm suffering from the silent stream bug.

If I'm watching a movie on my htpc and I pause it, my AVR switches from bitstream back to PCM (at least I think that's what's happening). When I press play, their is a 2-3 second delay in audio (video kicks back in immediately) as the AVR picks up the bitstream signal again.

I always thought it was my AVR. It's an Onkyo TX-SR706. But I just got a standalone BD player and that does not have the issue. If I pause a movie and press play, there is no delay. The player is sending and the AVR is receiving the uninterrupted bitstream signal the entire time.

In researching the problem, I didn't find much about Intel users experiencing the silent stream bug, which makes me think it's a problem somewhere else in my settings. Any ideas?

I own an onkyo 609
I test with Intel / AMD / and Nvidia integrated audio bitstreaming
All vendors are EXACTLY the same as what you have described.

It may be the onkyo as I havent tested any other AVR's

Thanks for the reply, Shark!

I just wonder why I don't have the same problem when bitstreaming from a standalone bd player? I only have an issue when bitstreaming from my htpc. It seems like this test takes the receiver out of the equation and puts blame on the htpc, but maybe that's way over simplifying things.

Which media player/codecs are you using?

I am using PotPlayer with its internal codecs and i have the exact same issue as you, which happens because when you pause a video the player drops the exclusive-mode audio stream and then restarts it when you unpause.

I think this is down to software and not all media players/codecs do this. I used to use mpc-hc with ffdshow and that only used to drop the exclusive-mode stream if the audio was DTS-HD or TrueHD; for regular DD and DTS the stream stayed open when paused.

I pretty much only use WMC. I've used other players in the past, but currently I'm doing everything through WMC.
